Question for the Teachers....

Hi all! I know there are a lot of you so I figured this would be a good place to ask.

I have my Bachelor Degree in English from GW University w. a minor in Writing. I have two semesters towards my Masters in English from Fordham.

Question:

What does it take from here to become a high school English or Writing teacher? I know the requirements may be different for Jersey, but what do you know about the NY requirements?

Re: Question for the Teachers....

i am not teaching just yet.. just started filing my application with the state and will begin my masters in january. but i think you have a great head start on it all. u could probably get hired by a private school with all yur experience but a city school will want you certified or at least provisinally certified. u may wanna bump this later so that they see it being that it's still kinda early in the day... good luck!

Re: Question for the Teachers....

Hi Jenny,

I can't answer that for you but my husband probably can because he is a High School English teacher. I will ask and see what he says.

Re: Question for the Teachers....

for NY...you will need to take the NYS teaching exams...and get 18 credits in education plus student teaching (usually about 300 hours?)

my friend just switched to NJ...and I beleive the requirements are not as bad as NY...I bleieve that they accept the national teaching exam (NTE)...

heres the
NJ Dept of Ed site
