Question of the Day for 10/7/2002

Original post by shamma

How are household chores divided in your home??

Hubby and I both share the cooking

We both do grocery shopping

We both vacuum when necessary

I do the laundry and he does the bathrooms

Our son does the kitchen floor

And I do the dusting.

He dusts, I stink at that
He takes care of the cars
He takes out the garbage (recycleables)
He clears the table after a meal
If he's home after I do the laundry he
will put away his clothes.

This is a tough one because I do the bulk of the chores..I am home 2 hours before he is and we leave at the same time! My poor Hubby he works hard so I am the primary 'housekeeper'

I clean the floors (compulsivley, I HATE dog hairs on my hardwood floors)

I do the dishes and put them away (no dishwasher )

I do the bathrooms, (enuf said about living with 2 boys,,lol)

I do the laundry, because I am anal about what goes in the dryer and what doesn't

He irons, I stink at it

We cook toether because we like to, however he is an awesome cook, but makes quite the mess

I dust, and mop the floors

Our son takes out the garbage

We both do the shopping together

He handles all car issues and does most of the shuttling of our son to school and football practice

I grew up in what is referred to as 'Upper Ditmars' -- around the block from LaGuardia Airport (off Ditmars). I went to JHS 141 in Astoria and HS in Astoria (Mater Christi/St. John's Prep). I now live in Maspeth (in the house Joe grew up in), next door to Middle Village! But I go back to shop in Astoria because there are no fruit stores in his neighborhood and I HATE HATE HATE Stop & Shop and the idiots who made that parking lot should be shot!!!!!!!

Upper Ditmars is still VERY nice. The area where my parents are (right by the hospital) in Astoria, is really 'CHANGING' and we've been trying to get them OUT and finally have succeeded !
They deserve a better area to live in and piece of mind... I went to JHS 126, and HS - LIC (they are horrendous now, werent too great back then either, lol)
There are some good fruit stores on Metropolitan Ave in MV..... Theres one that I get DELISHUS mushrooms at every time I visit my sis, theyre like $1.39 for a nice pack, which would cost me like $4 at the Waldbaums in Commack, and I dont even like them as much.. (I sound like such a housewife ! )

My aunt lives around there also (around the block from Astorian Manor) and that neighborhood is definitely changing! It's sad how things change and sometimes not for the better and all the places you went in your childhood are no longer there!!

As for Middle Village, I should start going to Metropolitan Ave to shop, but on a weekend it's almost as bad as getting a spot on Steinway or Ditmars!!! LOL I've been to that Silver Barn Farms and they aren't too bad, but I still like my Astoria Fruit Stores!!! Top Tomato, here I come!!! LOL :)

YEP, Astoria is really changing (and the rents keep going up ! Works for us, cuz my parents own a 6 family there, that they dont plan to sell...) It IS sad when you have so many memories someplace, the block where I learned to ride a bike, the pizzeria where we used to play videogames in our JHS days, the church where we grew up, ASTORIA PARK - 'hanging out at the strip', Silver Screens Wild Wednesdays ! ...the places my mom and grandparents lived and worked, its FULL of my family's history, and all the houses of those that we grew up with but they either moved or passed away... (im gonna get sappy now ! ) and yesterday was 10years that my nonna died.. I think of her every single day !
)... Even as much as it has changed, and we want my parents OUT OF THERE, I will miss it, go drive by in years to come...and it will always have a place in my heart...
Its one of those things, like family, LOL, I can curse about it, and criticize it, but if someone else does (LIKE DH) I will rip his head off, LOL (HE HATESSSSS AStoria with a passion ! )

Yep those fruit stores are the best, my mom makes her rounds of Grand Avenue finding the best deals on the block, and then I tell her how much tomatoes cost HERE and she wants to throw up!
LOL.
