I grew up always having a fake Christmas tree, but DH grew up with real trees...so far over the last few years we've been getting real ones. I do kinda like how it smells, I just hate the needles everywhere.
As far as lights we use color lights on the tree, but to be honest, I'm getting sick of that look, I think white lights are more elegant. We did use white lights to decorate our front yard though.

I grew up with fake trees and white lights. DH wanted a real tree and that's what we got. He wanted colored lights but I said no, I don't like them.

We always get a real tree. It's such a PIA and I'd rather not get a real one but DH insists and because I'm jewish my vote doesn't count. White lights this year! I'm not losing that battle.

our first tree is a fake pre-lit tree with white lights. i love not having to put the lights on.

we have a fake, while lights and all red/gold themed ornaments and decorations

We always grew up with a fake tree as well. DH only does real and we've done that for the past 3 years..he uses colored lights, personally I don't like colored lights I use only the white ones and he calls me boring! lol OH WELL!

i grew up with fake trees, but always wanted a real tree. For the past five years i've gotten a real tree.
We just got a real one last night, and it will have colored lights cuz that reminds me of my childhood, although dh mentioned that he likes the white lights, but oh well!

We have the same debate now. I grew p with fake trees and DH loves real ones. I'm not thrilled about the needles, watering it, etc. I also an very afraid of fire, etc. We are going to LOOK at real ones this Saturday but hopefully we can get a fake one.
I LOVE white lights with my metallic and cream tree decor. THANKFULLY DH doesn't care too much about that!

I just bought a 7.5 ft. tree (fake ) w/ multi colored lights, I have done the white lights for so long I am sick of them, and everybody seems to do white. I like to be different.

Fake tree, white lights.
I can't stand the thought of a real tree dropping needles all over the place, drying up, having to water it, etc. lol - they look so pretty and smell great, but they are SO much more work than a fake and we have a dog that I'm afraid would try to eat the fallen needles of a real tree.
Same here! We have a pre-lit tree with white lights. My dog would definitely eat the fallen needles.

I have a littel four foot tree. It's fake and pre lit with white lights. My ornaments are very colorful and I love the way it looks. I agree it's very elegant.

We have a real tree and colored lights. I prefer white because I think they are more elegant too but DH wanted colored - I had to compromise somewhere...

We got a fake tree with clear lights. Our color scheme is red, green and gold balls. We also added other collectible ornaments and put an angel on the top. It looks very pretty! I am anti-real tree, but have a real wreath for the smell.

Real tree HANDS DOWN, but that is ALL we can agree on so............................we switch every year. His year I pick the tree I like Colorado Spruce and he gets his multi-colored lights, and then the next year he gets his Blue Spruce and I get my pure red tree. It works out well so we both have a part of the tree we like. This year, however, was my year but they were out of Blue Spruce and he picked a Colorado and low and behold all of the red lights were dead so we have a multi colored tree After Christmas I am buying 1000 red lights so next year I can finally get my red tree agian....It's been 2 yrs!

I grew up always having real trees. My mom did colored blinking lights when i was little cus my sister and I always asked for colored. Once we were older she switched to white. DH always grew up with a fake tree. Now we live in an apartment and it gets really hot so we have a fake tree. once we have kids and own a house, we will do real trees with white lights. I ahve white lights on now, the tree came with them and I prefer them.
