I grew up always having a fake Christmas tree, but DH grew up with real trees...so far over the last few years we've been getting real ones. I do kinda like how it smells, I just hate the needles everywhere.
As far as lights we use color lights on the tree, but to be honest, I'm getting sick of that look, I think white lights are more elegant. We did use white lights to decorate our front yard though.

I agree..white lights do look more elegant..but I still stick with multi colored :) and we have a fake tree...I feel its too much of a hassel to go with a real one. JMO

Mine is opposite, DH always grew up with a fake tree and I grew up with real tree. Since we have an apt our best option was to get a tree that way we can get rid of it becuase we have no room to keep a fake one. I love whitelights too thats what we have, and DH loves colored so we put white lights and colorful ornaments

Fake tree, white lights.
I can't stand the thought of a real tree dropping needles all over the place, drying up, having to water it, etc. lol - they look so pretty and smell great, but they are SO much more work than a fake and we have a dog that I'm afraid would try to eat the fallen needles of a real tree.

REAL! It's more annoying to clean but were real tree people...both of us always had real growing up. I like both lights but this year I think we'll do colored

Fake tree here. I got a pre-lit white lights but I add more white and red lights. My tree has a gold/red theme.

I grew up with Fake trees, so fake trees for me. White lights all the way. I love the elegance that white lights give trees. If you have kiddies or kiddies that visit you often I would go with color lights bc they love them.

I grew up with sometimes real, sometimes fake trees.
We decided to get a fakey because we travel alot during the holidays and cant keep up with the maintence on a real. Also we have white lights. DH loves color lights but I told him they are kinda out.

I've actually grew up with a fake tree with multi lights...my parents tree actually rotates! its hardcore..lol
We upgraded to a big tree last year..i'll post pics when I get home I love it so much..it makes me feel all grown up with my own tree!
I HATE real trees! way too much work and I actually get all enviromentalist on people about, i dunno why! I feel like its a horrible thing to cut down a tree to watch it slowly die for a few weeks (not to mention make a mess in your home) to just to toss it away....i'm totally not all green peace like, but for some reason when it comes to xmas trees I get very vocal...I just dont get it...
Ps dont get defensive!!! Most of my friends have real xmas tress and i'm always teasin' them

I have always had a fake tree and like white lights. DH has always had a real tree and likes color or blue lights which I told him is tacky! I told him we can do a real tree but no color!

Same here! I had a fake one growing up, and so now, DH and I get real. Always have, ever since our first christmas in our first apt. But I hate the needles. I find them until April, and I sweep 1x a week!!!!
I use white lights - always have, and I just love them.
We got our tree on Monday night, DH put it up yesterday while I worked late, and tonight we are decorating it after having a nice dinner. Can't wait!!!

I always had an artificial tree growing up. Last year we had just moved in so we got a real tree...it was really nice too! I didn't find the mess tooo bad and it did smell nice. I do like that you can just throw it away then instead of packing it away. We're going to get a real one this year too. And, we use white lights.
