Realizing issues/imperfections w/your gown on the big day

Original post by lanabean

In looking at my pics, I see now that I had a wrinkle....something going on right under my bust. Like a slight crease! Not in all the pics, but I guess depending on how I was standing. I can do nothing now...but how annoying! Anyone notice these little oddities? I did lose weight just before and needed to have the hem done again; I guess the top got a little big. Oh well.

Please feel free to add yours so I don't feel so stupid! LOL

And here it is:

You can kinda see it here--I had one button that was really tight. Even when we finally got it buttoned, it looked like it was not done, because it was so much tighter than the rest. It did not feel too tight but it looked bad! It was kinda like that at my last fitting but I think it got worse because the shoulders were originally big on me and when she tightened that, then this happened (if that makes sense). The seamstress seemed very lazy to do much and I do think that there would have been a solution to this if she was willing to try.

My boobs looked lopsided and droopy all night because I had cups sewn into a flimsy dress. There was no other way to wear it as the back was all open and rather symmetrical. As long as I stood up straight, I was fine but that didnt always happen as you can see here!:

I LOVED mine, but I had big problems with the straps slipping off my shoulders! Wha t a pain on your wedding day! They needed to be tighter!

Isn't it funny, all of us having dress mishaps?

I think it's a given. We should share the veil advice with the unmarried ladies. My Dad did the same, not putting it down nice:

But my mother (also my MOH) was standing behind me and had the foresight to straighten it and also straighten my train somewhat, even though I didn't ask her:

It's too bad the photographers didn't straighten my train for the rest of the portraits. I had to keep doing it myself, but it's not easy!

I had the boobie crease also. I was talked into cups but I sould have known that my chest was to heavy for cups!!

Veil issue here.

It fell out midway through the ceremony! My MIL made it for me and she put the comb on backwards, we didn't discover that til the day of, so we just jammed it in for the ceremony, my sister made the grab when it fell out. Its funny in the pics of my my sister walking back up the aisle, she is holding the veil!

The loop for the bustle stretched out halfway during the reception so I left my train out most of the wedding day. Thank goodness it wasnt very long. You can see it here when I danced with my dad.

I had no problems except that my corset worked a little too well and I have major boobage in some of my pics that I never noticed at my fittings.

don't have a picture of this...but veil issue.

I didn't bring it to the salon to have them put it in b/c my mom is good with hair and said she'd do it and also because i was afraid I'd ruin the veil in car ride to the salon (it was floor length)

BUT I kept having to push the comb into my head during the ceremony it just wouldn't stay down depsite like 10 bobby pins...

Also - we had chairs in church and i didn't even think of this - but they were blocking the back of my dress so yo ucouldn't see the beautiful train -my favorite part! And my sisters (co-moh) were so NOT on the ball with fixing the train, my mom was practically yelling at them from the church pews.

Veil issue during the ceremony. My dad didn't put it all the way down, but thankfully someone did at some point, I just don't know who.

My dress in some pics looked loose on top, although this might have been because either I had it taken out a week before the wedding, or because I added cutlets the day off.

The dress still seemed slightly off center to me, but that could have been the way it fell because of the crinoline. If you look at the 2nd pic the skirt looks REALLY off center.

There was a puff under the waist seam that stuck out before pressing. I was told the pressing would make it go away, but when I hung the dress up, I noticed it was still there a little.

No big deal, I didn't even stress these things for too long!!

Re: Realizing issues/imperfections w/your gown on the big day

Two problems with my gown:
1) b/c of the low back, I had cups sewn in instead of wearing a crazy bra contraption - well the cups lifted me LOTS and I'm too embarassed to post some of the pervy pics my photographer took standing on a chair DOWN my dress. My mom yelled at him when he was doing it and I was like, 'Maaa, he's just taking photojournalist shots'. Anyway, when I got back my proofs I had to hide certain pics from DH so he wouldn't knock the photographer's teeth out.
ETS: Mind you, these pics did not include my head - some where JUST my chest. As I type this I'm realizing this is not so much a dress problem, but a photographer problem!

2) the seamstress had to replace the eye hook on the back of the gown, which apparently wasn't done correctly so I literally had a hole in my backbone at the end of the night - it didn't help that I was at my all time low weight-wise so I had no cushioning. My bridal attendant kept trying to bandage it without showing the bandage but it's tough to keep a bandaid on a back bone - that HURT!

Re: Realizing issues/imperfections w/your gown on the big day

I'll post pics later, but my straps were detachable and too loose so they would slip off my shoulders. Then as I was dancing, the strap violently popped off! So my MOH put a big safety pin on it and it stayed until my father daughter dance where we did a lot of turns and it violently popped off again. This happened about 2 more times and by the end of the night I went strapless. But that was after the photographers left, so all my pro pics have the straps and you couldn't see the safety pin. I had one great non-pro pic of me doing a dip with DH, but the strap was off my shoulder. Grrrrrr.
