Princess was great!!! Last summer Dh and I went on an southern caribbean cruise and had the best time. I would NOT recommend Carnival, it's very low class.
I went on a Carnival cruise for my honeymoon and didn't think it was low class. It was my first cruise and we had an awesome time. Some of the other lines are a little more higher end but I wouldn't say Carnival was bad. We had excellent service, good food and a very nice room with a balcony.
We went on the 7nt Southern Carribean cruise from San Juan to St. Thomas, Dominica, Barbados and Aruba.
I only felt this way because we were treated like Sh!it. We were ignored, had problems with our seating arangements and one night they didn't have lobster for our late seating time....very unprepared on their part. Sorry if I offended you but our experience was bad.

You didn't offend me at all. I just wanted to give the perspective of someone who had good service and good time.

Re: Recommend a cruise?
i've only been on one cruise and it was the Norwegian Dawn. the ship cruises to miami, orlando, and 2 places in the bahamas. we went with that particular cruise because it sails from manhattan which is convenient. it being the first and only cruise to date i have one annoying bone to pick. it's the many, many, o! so many kids running around in the hallways. sometimes peace and quiet is sublime. PS don't buy those braces that relieves sea sickness. it's all in the head. buy your under water cameras - that's if you plan on taking pix under water. and.. hmm.. that's all i can think of. have a great time!

I also recommend Royal Carribean! I been on Sovereign of the Sea and Mariner of the Sea. Mariner of the Sea is a voyager class ship. That was an awesome 7days! We went to the Western Caribbean. Had an awesome time.
Sovereign is an older ship and much smaller than the Voyager class ship but it was a short trip 3-4 days from Pt Canaveral. They recently renovated it and added a few things to it.
The one I am most looking forward to is Freedom of the Sea!! It's an ULTRA VOYAGER that's suppose to have it's first sailing MAY 2006! I can't wait!
I usually book through Travelocity but I also check Orbitz, Expedia, RCCL website, and some other ones to compare prices. Travelocity will occasionally give you good discounts so that's why I booked with them.
Hope this helps!

Oh forgot to mention. I know people who went on Celebrity, RCCL's sister company. The food there is suppose to be great!
Oh and I second cruisecritics website! They have forums with TONS of good info! I did so much research on there for excursions etc (Booking through the ship can be more expensive)

Also, Norweigen Dawn has a cruise this year that leaves out of NY and goes to the southern caribbean for 10 or 11 days. That's great because the airfare to Puerto Rico can be expensive.
ALWAYS get a room with a balcony!
we went on norwegian dawn and it wasnt so hot - aside from the many different restaurants which are great, it was just ok. i think the overall service is sacraficed to accommodate the additonal need for restaurant staff.

I have been on several cruises and by far my favorite has been along the inside passage in Alaska. I went on Royal Carribean's ship Legend of the Seas. At the time it was a new ship and was so nice. Alaska was breathtaking. It was a trip I will never forget and want to do again with my DH.

I was on one for my honeymoon two years ago. Disney is the BEST for service, food and especially the deserts! I had the best time and I never saw one kid (that was a major concern for me). There were adults only pools, entertainment and restuarants.
I highly recommend Palo's which is the adults only rest. on the boat. Amazing food!!
