Re: recommend your favorite book/authors!
I grew up with classic literature but I have a guilty pleasure for 'pop fiction' like suspense and funny romance novels like the ones I write.
Suspense: -Tess Gerritsen -Dean Koontz
Romance: -Jennifer Crusie (she doesnt write the bodice rippers-just REALLY funny cute beacy reads) My favorite one by her is Tell me Lies-You laugh fom beginning to end. -Sandra Hill-funny stuff. The best are the Cajun family series.

Loved both Kite Runner and Middlesex. I found Middlesex hard to get into at first, but then I got hooked. I just finished Love in the Time of Cholera. I really liked it. I'm currently reading Eat, Pray, Love--just started it but already enjoying it.

I really liked the book The Memory Keeper's Daughter and if you like Kite Runner, definitely read A Thousand Splendid Suns (by the same author)- it was a great book.
I just bought a couple of books this week for vacation next week, so I'll let you know how they turn out.

David Sedaris is my favorite. He writes the funniest short stories but that is not really book club material.
A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers is an old favorite of mine. I have read it about 3 times.
I usually like anything by Nick Hornby High Fidelity, About A Boy and a A Long Way Down are my favorites.

I was going to recommend Kite Runner!
I love the story behind 'Pride & Prejudice'...but that's a real classic.
Besides that, I don't get to read much. Just on vacation.

I don't read as much as I used to, but am trying to get back into it. The TV writer's strike has helped a lot. I am also reading Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. What a pleasant book to read. Actually puts me in a good mood. I have the new Anita Shreve book at home, Body Surfing. Next one on my list to read will be Kite Runner.

That was such an eye opening book..especially with the recent undercover cruelty cases about 'downer' animals and this latest recall of meat. It's so horrible the way these animals are treated and people just have no idea or ignore it because it is just too awful to face.
Anyway, besides that, I am a total chick lit fan...I love anything by Sophie Kinsella, Jane Green and Emily Griffin.
My Sister's Keeper, The Kite Runner and Marley and Me were also some of my favs.

I love chick-lit too!! Sophie Kinsella and Jane Green are awesome (Sophie even has a new book coming out next week!) Read My Sister's Keeper and it was a little heavy but really good. I'm reading a Kate White book now, she does murder mysteries, she's got a few books with the same character in each book that are good. Right now I'm reading Over Her Dead Body good so far. HTH
