So, we know money is a big factor in the baby decision. Maybe this is a silly quetsion but, any idea how much it costs to have a baby?

Re: related to the baby-related thread
I know--I'm responding to my own post, but I found this online:
'In your baby's first year alone, you can easily spend between $9,000-$11,000 (for diapers, formula, baby furniture, clothing, baby gear, etc.)'
And you thought your photographer was expensive!

Well that depends on a lot of things. Your insurance will be a big factor. Does your insurance cover everything pregnancy related? What is your copay? Because you will have to see the doctor every week to every 2 weeks near the end of your pregnancy. How much will you have to pay out of pocket at delivery?
Then there is all of the necessary baby items to buy like a crib & other furniture. Once the baby is born, you have to consider diapers, clothing & formula if you choose not to breastfeed.
Honestly though, I managed it at 18. I was on my parents insurance at the time though & I had great coverage & a very little copay. I recieved most necessary items at my shower & the rest I bought over a few months. I decided to breastfeed which was a lifesaver because formula is really expensive, and I always bought diapers in bulk from BJs or Costco so the cost wasn't so bad.

The article I found said that was the cost of expenses of items for the baby. The birth and hospital are (way) above and beyond that cost. I'm sure there are a million articles out there, and they'll all say something different. I was curious myself b/c it seems like years ago, people at 5-6 kids in each family and they somehow managed. But, today, everyone says it's too expensive. I guess there's so many things to consider, it's different for everybody.

yes, kids are an expense.... but think of all the babies that are born every day without all the beautiful things, good healthcare, etc. etc. that we can so easily provide in the United States. my parents were poor immigrants that had 4 kids in 6 years in a 2 bedroom apartment. i am not worrying about it.... it will all work out. as my mom says, 'God will provide.'

everyone seems to say that you can never afford a baby, you will always just find a way to make things work. i think it all depends on the lifestyle and things like that. its more than likely a pretty penny!!
