I was raised Catholic BUT I am not a practicing catholic. Haven't been to church in years!! I'll pretty much go for weddings and funerals!
At one pt in life I claimed to be an athiest BUT as I've gotten older and contemplated it more I will now consider myself agnostic

Re: Religion
Roman Catholic and extremely involved and practicing. Went to Catholic school, worked at two Catholic universites and served for a year as a CAtholic lay missionary (a Peace Corps type of experience) after college. Catholicism is a big part of who I am and how I view the world.
DH is also a practicing Catholic and is even contemplating ordination to the diaconate...
I wish more Catholics had a better understanding of the faith and had the amazing experiences I had such as retreats, service work, traveling to the 3rd world to be with the poor, etc. I think we would have a lot less people bashing the Church if more people knew what it truly believes and stands for. It is not just rules and 'no you can't do that' as many people think it is.
Dang, Marie...throwing out all the tough ones, tonight!

Re: Religion
i was born and raised Roman Catholic, both DH and I went to Private Catholic schools, got married in the church-it was important to us since we had completed all our sacraments-but we go to church rarely. More so just b/c we are lazy
But out children will be raised RC and they can choose later in life what they want to believe and follow.

Even though I now consider myself agnostic, I will still raise my children Roman Catholic and then let them choose what they want after they make their confirmation. I believe that they should grow up with some religious foundation and then have the choice to stay, leave or change once they are old enough to understand!

Re: Religion
Both DH and I are Catholic. He didn't practice for years after he went away to college. I have always been very active and involved (my family is pretty devout). We now go to a parish in DC that is run by Jesuits. They are wonderful. Tell you exactly what parts they think are nonsense and always connect faith to real life occurrences. We have yet to hear a homily that hasn't inspired us in some way and left us with a 'wow' feeling. It was our pre-cana sessions at that parish that got DH willing to go back to mass after years and years of being away.

Re: Religion
DH is Catholic but not practicing and I am Lutheran and basically not practing either -- just go to church during the holidays and weddings, etc. Love-love-love my church's xmas eve service. I keep telling DH I would like to make an effort to go to church more often at least once or twice a month and it still hasn't happened yet

This is how I was raised and how I will raise my kids, teach them what you can and then let them choose.

Re: Religion
DH and I are both Episcopalian. I was raised RC, but as I got older I realized that I'd really rather practice my faith without having the RC church intrude on how I choose to practice. Don't flame me for this -- but I found the RC church to be quite corrupt (just my personal experience though), so I began attending the Episcopal church where I felt much more welcome and closer to God.

Re: Religion
I am Jewish, but more reform leaning. I only go to temple on the high holidays, but we do celebrate all of the holidays. But I eat a lot of bacon!

Re: Religion
we're both catholic and I consider it a right of passage for my kids to be raised catholic, and become a devout catholic athiest in adulthood
what's up with that anyway? why do we all fall off the wagon after confirmation
at any rate, I consider it to be a major part of my culture, and it will of course be a part of our kids upbringing.... do I honestly believe everything? nope... but I'll leave that for my kids to decide for themselves as they become adults...
