Renewal ceremony...

Renewal ceremony...

so anyone who remembers my rants in the earliest stages of my planning might recall that I was adamant about having a small intimate wedding. OF course that did not happen, since I married into a family that is all about big friggin ridiculous parties.

DH came to me the other day & asked if he could make it up to me by having a renewal ceremony & reception in the way that I wanted the wedding for our 5th anniversary.

1- do you think that is too soon?
2- of we were to do it, do you think we'd need to go the full sha-bang & have the 7 course sit down dinner & all that stuff? I'd love a simple intimate party maybe in the cortland manor, or the Shelter Island inn or something, and make a weekend out of it for about 50 people or so. And I'd love for my aunt to marry us (she is a minister & could not marry us due to my super-catholic MIL having a fit that we'd not be 'really' married).

no registry - no gifts, just a nice celebration.

Honest opinions please.

I think that is a good idea. Five years is fine. It is up to you and your Dh when, whether it be 5 years, 10 years or 20 years. I don't think it matters really. I have a friend that invited about 50 close friends and family and went to a nice restaurant. They had nothing too extravagant. Salad, dinner and a nice desert, cake and cookies. Something a little more upscale than a family dinner. They had a great time and eveyone enjoyed it.

I would think it's a bit too soon. I think it's a great idea for a 25 year anniversary or something.. But that's just what I think!

I think I might agree, but I was thinking maybe 10 years. I dunno....I guess I have a lot to think about

ETA: Thanks sweetd for letting me know about your friend's....hoe did people perceive the party....did they think it was weird?

Some people did. But a lot of others didn't. We thought, it was a good idea. If you have the money to do it and that is what you really want, I don't think it matters. I would do it then.

Oh, I forgot to add something. I would do something small though, since it is after 5 years. I think that is why some people that went to my friends thought it was a good idea. It wasn't too lavish or over the edge. That will make all the difference I think.
