Repost from LIF: I am SO upset!!!

I don't know whether to be sad or angry - I feel a mixture of both. I was just reached for comment (on the phone) by a Newsday reporter. She asked me to comment on the LAWSUIT WE HAVE FILED AGAINST THE COUNTY OF NASSAU for my brother's accident.

That was me. I said, since the beginning my parents have been vehemently opposed to a lawsuit against the county. They made that abundantly clear to everyone from the county we have had contact with since the crash. My father told the lawyer we spoke to, FLAT OUT, I will never sue the county. They have been wonderful to us and had NOTHING TO DO WITH why Kenneth was hurt.

NEWSDAY article - so upsetting! and FALSE.

That article sounds HORRIBLE -- people are going to think this is TRUE and think we are greedy and terrible people. Sure, my brother works for the county but he was hurt b/c someone decided to DRIVE DRUNK -- not because of the roadway not being properly maintained

I issued comments via the reporter on the phone that this is FALSE FALSE FALSE but I'm afraid a lot of the damage is already done being that it was already released without our knowledge. I can't BELIEVE how things that are not true can get reported like this - NEVER believe anything you read!!

My parents are SO upset... after the department and county did all they did for us -- this is what happens??

My Dad is putting a call into that Lawyer first thing tomorrow AM.

I am so sorry that this had to happen to you and your family.
I for one do not think by any means that your family was greedy...even if you did decide to sue for 50 mil. Your brothers well being, as well as his families is worth 500 million times more that $50 mil. You have been kind enough to post updates for us and you've been very open about your feelings.
Please don't let this article bring you down. The media at times can be your friend and at times your worst enemy. I am glad your father is calling the lawyer in the morning and hopefully a retraction statement can be posted as soon as possible. The false B/S that gets written is digusting.

Dani, I am so sorry that this has happened. Does your lawyer even know about a lawsuit or did newsday make it up? I would go after Newsday threatening them with a lawsuit if they don't retract and put a public apology to your family and Nassau County. That is just flat out wrong especially after what Nassau did for your brother. Newsday has some nerve just printing something without your knowledge and they said in the article that your family couldn't be reached too.

Here are some and I hope your family and Kenneth teach Newsday a lesson.

I just love how the media (esp. Newsday) sensationalizes things. The lawyer filed a notice, not a lawsuit. Yes, he should have consulted with you first, or maybe he did, but he's just covering your bases. A lot of folks file notice just to keep their options open but nothing ever comes of it.

So, he files NOTICE and Newsday twists that into 'plans to sue'. Yup. Gotta love the media.

Your brother has SO many people in his corner and I don't think any of them will think any less of him. I've seen people (including PO's) sue for much more over much less.

I am so sorry to hear. I cant believe they wrote that article although it doesnt surprise me. Newsday is far from accurate on plenty of their stories. Continuing to pray for your brother everyday.

Wow thats crazy. Hopefully the truth will get out there and make the lawyer look really bad.

Wow! How can they just make that up? I understand things in certain magazines being made up, but people rely on newspapers for real news. I know it probably happens all the time, but its upsetting when it is proven.

Im sorry you and your family have to deal with this. Im sure it is the last thing you need right now!
