Restaurant's - Brooklyn, Queens, NYC

I am trying to plan a small party (25-30 people) for my husband's birthday (the big 40). I'm looking for restaurant's in Brooklyn, Queens or NYC.

We really like Bamonte's and Pete's Downtown (both in Brooklyn) but I was hoping to find someplace different.

If we decide on NYC I need an area that is not too crowded (no Village or Times Square area).

Any suggestions??

Thanks!!

Re: Restaurant's - Brooklyn, Queens, NYC

Carmines (the uptown location) has a private room you can rent for parties. And the food is really excellent.

I have a long list of places in Brooklyn - what sort of ambiance are you looking for? More bar/party type or more restaurant upscale?

Re: Restaurant's - Brooklyn, Queens, NYC

I had my engagement party at a place called Lily's in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. The food is excellent, the place is real nice and it's reasonably priced. It's a bar/restaurant and there is a back room used for parties. After 11 that room becomes a dance club. Good luck!

Re: Restaurant's - Brooklyn, Queens, NYC

My sisters fiance throught their surprise (well to her anyway!!!) engagement party at Marchies (not sure of spelling) in NYC (31st & 2nd I think it is). Real easy to get to... right out of the midtown tunnel I think! Great room with a fire place, family style... there were about 40 people there & they let him have it for a Sat. night too! Let me know if you want better info... I will call him!

Re: Restaurant's - Brooklyn, Queens, NYC

Stef - Where is Carmine's uptown location? Is it very crowded? I have only been to the one by 42nd St. and that one is always packed.
I'm looking for a restaurant that has a relaxed, family atmosphere, preferably an Italian restaurant.

Val - Marchi's sounds cool - is it expensive?

Thanks for the info everyone.

Re: Restaurant's - Brooklyn, Queens, NYC

Not sure of the exact location but its in the 90s somewhere. No doubt that location is also packed but unlike the midtown locale, you can rent out the private room for parties so you will have your own space.

We had our RD at the midtown location because it was just a few blocks away from our church, but Carmine's did suggest the uptown location to us as well. Food and service were excellent.

Another option in Brooklyn is Ginos...they also have a private room but im not sure how many it holds. The food is very reasonably priced - Italian, family feeling.

Re: Restaurant's - Brooklyn, Queens, NYC

Carmines uptown is 90th or 91st & Broadway .. I always forget. It's a great location ... not as crowded as midtown. They'll be able to accomodate you with no prob. I was at a retirement pty there which was very nice!!

Re: Restaurant's - Brooklyn, Queens, NYC

Marchi's is great! We love it.

31st Street and (I think) 2nd Avenue, on the ground floor of a brownstone. Garden out back is nice.

I'm not sure how they work private parties, but for regular diners there's no menu. They've been serving the same five course, family style dinner there for 50 years or so.

Check out the website

Re: Restaurant's - Brooklyn, Queens, NYC

I live in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn (Lily's is up the street from my apartment). If that is where you are looking, let me know. There are two restaurants in Bay Ridge with the same owners as Pete's Downtown (Thristino's and Pietro's, both Italian/continental). I've been to both and they are pretty good. Chadwick's (steakhouse/continental) is really good and reasonable (that's where my shower was). Chianti's is an Italian family style restaurant that has a greenhouse that is available for parties and good/reasonable. I could go on and on, but I believe those are the best. I believe all these places have valet (I mention this because parking is not the greatest in Bay Ridge).

Hope this helps!!!!
