Rude or no? Poll

Original post by carolinebr

So a co-worker said to me at lunch today:

'You eat so much. Its like you're eating every time I see you. You should be 350 pounds. How come you're not fat?'

What are your thoughts. I didn't know who to take it. Do you say thank you? Or did she just call me a pig?

ETA I am not skinny. I'm 'sturdy' as my mother would say.

no, she's not heavy. She's pretty well put together. She has a slightly large bottom but she's shapely and in her late 40's. She looks great.

Some people just have the inability to say the right things the right way.
She may have meant you a compliment, but it came out as backhanded.

My DH tries sarcasm with me, but he can never get it right. It usually sounds like an insult.

Hmmm...I think that's a backhanded compliment.

ITA!!

I had a similar experience at work. As I am eating a piece of cake, some woman goes 'is that cake worth the wasted calories'? I was like - did you just say that out loud.

I think she was saying it because she is concerned about her own calorie intake and wanted to justify EATING A PIECEbut really who says that?

I would have to go 50/50 on this one. In a way it is a compliment because it sounds like she is saying you don't gain when you eat but in a way she insulted you by saying keep eating like that and you will be 350.

Your are just perfect I would not listen to her at all. Some people should just mind their business. As the others say maybe she is jealous of you.

people always say that to me. I always get 'how could you eat like that & not get fat?'
I usually make a joke
I guess it's a compliment but it is kind of rude

i would say this person suffers from not having a filter.
i hate when people say stuff like that and dont realize how hurtful they are being, even when they may not be trying to be rude.

Yup. They have issues - with food and with socially appropriate conversation.

Hey, when a coworker comes up to you and asks if your PG and you have to say 'No', then be offended. Funny, I had that happen to me today!
