rude ... vent -adopting dogs

I am the process of trying to find a dog to adopt. I have been sending in alot of applications online with little or no success.
Dh and I work full days and for the beggining I told them I would crate the dog because of my cat I dont want it to scratch the dogs eyes out. I just get this email from this woman who says,

'we dont not want our dogs crated or left 8 hours a day
sorry'.

Are these places saying that because I work I am not allowed to have a dog or will not take good care of it? Its just upsetting.

did you try this place? my co-worker just adopted the CUTEST dog... and he and his gf definitely work all day etc. I'm sure they plan to crate it in the beginning also while they train it. they get it next week.

weird named dog adoption site with cute dogs

I thought the same thing, and as much as I hate having to leave him home for 8 hours a day, he is still fine.

What about when you crate him at night??? Do they think that's not fair? He is kept in the cage all night long right? It's the same thing..he will be fine and they are rude.

Thats stupid. Some places would recommend crating the dog while the cat is getting used to it. And I know tons of people who work 8 hours a day. Their dogs are fine!

I tried to rescue a dog and one place wouldn't let me adopt from them because DH worked all day and I was going to school but one day would work all day. There are a lot of people that are passionate animal lovers and criticize the way others handle their animals

When my cousin adopted her dog from North Shore they called me and asked if she would come home once a day to let the dog out to pee and I said probably not and they STILL let her get the dog

( i am against crating personally )

SO there are places out there - keep trying!!!! A little puppy is out there waiting for you!

You'll get one soon! Did you want to try northshore? Are you looking to adopt or buy a puppy? I got my little man Shea from a breeder.

aw, it's definitely normal to crate a puppy before it's housebroken and used to it's new home. I just wouldn't TELL the breeder my plans tho, I guess. What are they gonna do? Come over to your house for a surprise visit just to be sure it's not crated? Ugh. I hope you find your puppy soon.

i got my little girl at north shore. We both work. There are definitely places that will let you adopt. Good luck. Oh and crating is highly suggested by alot of trainers. It gives young dogs a sense of security they say.

I agree that it is normal to crate you dog during the day if that's what you need to do. I also agree to not mention that next shelter you talk to. Good luck to you!

I had been looking at shelter dogs to adopt, but ended up finding a 1½ year old dog on craigslist that needed a home. I started out gating her in the kitchen while at work, but she got destructive during the day and always managed to get through the gate and went to the bathroom in the house.. so we started crating her while not home (she sleeps with us at night) and she's SOOOO much better. She seems to like having a routine and goes right in the crate happily when I'm leaving and now she knows bathroom time is before I leave and when I come home.. not in the house.

Here's a pic just because she's cute

My puppy is crated for 7 hours a day on working days and is MORE than fine! Her crate is five times bigger than her, she has water, a blanket, three toys and some treats. This is the only good way to train a dog to be a house pet!

If they aren't trained properly, they end up thinking, they are the boss of the house!

My friend is trying to find someone to take his inlaws dog...

I don't know if you want a small dog or a large dog...but Augie is a 4 year old Shar Pe/Staffordshrie Terrier mix. he's a HUGE mush!
he's housebroken and trained to walk on a leash.

I'll see if I can post a pic
