What are your thoughts on SAHDs (stay @ home dads)? The whole SAHM theory comes from the assumption that that the DH is the breadwinner & will make enough money for the DW to stay home. But what if DW is the breadwinner? Is it ok for DH to become a SAHD? Or should the men always work no matter what?
My DH's cousin is a SAHD because his DW is a RN & makes way more money than he did. So, he stays home with the kids & works seasonal jobs to make extra money whenever he can.
What are you thoughts????

It would never work for us though - I would definitely be resentful and he would feel emasculated so I know its not an option for us.
The emasculated thing just made me think of something cute DH said the other day...
The tv show 'Scott Baio is 46 and pregnant' was on in the background. That show kind or irks me bc Baio is constantly acting like anything involving emotion or care or marriage or family or love is weak or burdensome or whatever....DH feels the same way about the show.
Well Baio started to talk about his newborn daughter to his shkeevy friend and he started tearing up, and he said something to the affect of 'Look, it took having a baby girl to turn me into a total girl!' or something. Well, DH hears and said something like, 'no..to turn you into a man.' I just thought it was cute. Not saying anything about a man's preference to stay home or not! It just came to mind and I thought it was cute... I just love that my DH is so comfortable with emotion and is a nurturing type.

that was a really sweet comment - i think you should keep him
DH is great with kids, helps out with the cooking or whatever - i think the staying home and not working part is what would get to him. Since his job is seasonal, he doesn't work in the winter. When he was younger he enjoyed this time off but since this is our first married winter - he has been getting depressed since I go off to work every morning and he stays home. . . he says he feels like a loser. I want him to stay home and enjoy it since he works obscene hours all summer and is the hardest worker i know - but that definitely will not make him happy. He decided to start working with my brother until the summer and next year he is going to get at least a part time job.

hehe..yep, he's a keeper.
i totally get what youre saying!! it definitely can't work for everyone. i know plenty of ppl in my life who really do NEED to be working. it just helps to feel productive and all of that. getting out as well. even if to me, im like..wow, they need to relax.

My hope is that when we have children, my DH will be a SAHD.
