I went there with my family eons ago but now FH and I are leaving Sunday. Can anyone recommend a hotel?

I wish I could help you, but I've never been! Try Trip Advisor, i tend to rely on them when I don't have personal recommendations. Are you going for vacation? I would love to see pics when you get back. Dh and I always talk about doing a CA trip and driving down the coast. I've been to San Diego and I love it there. Have fun!

We stayed in the Tenderloin district (about 2 blocks from the main trolley stop).
Hotel Metropolis. Great hotel, modern. Lots of bums though, (common in the Tenderloin). If you go closer to the Wharf you'll pay a heftier price.

I just came back but we stayed with friends... sorry I saw around the warf had lots of hotels. I would try to stay around Union Square lots of public transport and shopping

We stayed @ a hotel called The Orchard. It was a pretty cool boutique hotel. Walking distance to lots of shopping.

We stayed at the Omni in Nob Hill right by Union Square. We loved it!

I stayed at the Westin in June. Great spot. Not far from the wharf and easy to get just about eveywhere.
