Saturday QOTD 4/3

When did you grow up? the 80s? the 90s? everyone had 'phases' growing up and when we look back at them we all go 'WHAT THE HELL WAS I THINKING???!!!'

whats a phase you went through that makes you say that? Was it the dyed blonde hair? the tie-dye (sp?) shirts? slouch socks? side ponytails? Feathered bangs?

Post pics if you have!

I am soo a child of the early 80's (I was born in 79). I think I went through many many years of 'what was I thinking'...Truly I don't think I came into having a sense of style until I was 25 (6 years ago).

But

Growing up I would say the WORST OFFENSES? Let me count the ways:

1) the perms my mom forced me to get (1988)
2) the giant poofed bang (1991)
3) platform sneakers/moon boots (1997)
4) the double process platinum blonde years (2001-2003)

Oh girls I could go on..................

But I would never take any of it back I'd do all the disasters again because it was so much fun.

I grew up in the 80s and 90s and I can't really think of anything I did that was that embarrassing...maybe just how I wore my hair from 1998-2001. My mom is not a frilly person (very feminist) so she didn't know how to help me deal with my curly mess of a head of hair so I generally made it look like a mess.

I was born in 86 so had the privelege of getting the early 90's disasters as well...

Two Words:L.A. Gear

Those curly/spring shoelaces

Side pony tails

Banana Clips, those teeshirt things that you put it through so it would pull it up on the side? Oh yea had all that stuff.

Platform sneakers! My old school sketchers and steve maddens!

OH YES STIRRUP SPANDEX LEGGINGS

Never did anything too drastic other than clothes... although I did have a bad few months with SUN-IN in 7th grade...oh my god that stuff is awful.

I have a picture that sums up the hair, day glo and shoe laces.... HAHAHA. I'm on the far right!

Take a look at this picture and tell me what you think my biggest late 80s fad regret is:

Yup ... it's the friggin' hair. In case anyone is wondering, my mom doesn't have curly hair, so the frizz mess is courtesy of her brushing it every morning and the bangs are an exact replica of hers

Err... maybe tie dye shirts (in the first picture it's tie dye outfit!) and headbands... I wore a headband every single day of middle school and high school.

I am still wearing those same exact gold hoop earrings today. Insanity!!!!!!!! The second picture is from the summer before 8th grade!

I was born in 74 so i went through a million different phases. Like Neon clothes bubble bags high top sneakers on girls - bass shoes - guys wrestling sneakers- Z Cavs EG Smith socks Keds layered polo shirts Champion sweatshirts! Black band bracelettes charm bracelettes (not gold ones the plastic little things in shapes of tennis raquets basketballs bats etc.) Benetton, Espirit clothes ID shirts - Pinch folded pants - Farlow jeans to many things. lol

But for me it had to be the million & one hairstyles that i say WHAT THE HECK WAS I THINKING? The BIG hair the julia roberts curls the half up/down with the pouf in the front. Jaw clips then to complete straight hair. Which was easiest for me since my hair is straight. Anyway very interesting looks.

Same here.... dont forget the skid pants, never was a fan of them. Acid wash jeans in ALL colors, keds (boys and girls), wearing 2-3 pairs of socks buhched up over your skin tight jeans or leggins. Wearing 2 colors and you would altinate each colors with everything you had on

Hair styles with me well let me just post a few

I was born in 79, and had some doozies:

1. The bowl hair cut, bangs and all, that me and my cousins all had (circa 1982-83);
2. Hair crimping in middle school
3. Terrible awful eyeglasses - what were my parents thinking letting me pick those
4. Bangs - do kids even wear bangs anymore?

And don't forget how terrible the Halloween costumes were. The Barbie bride, where you put this plastic aprony thing on over the front of your clothes, and it tied in the back like a hospital gown. And a mask made out of hard plastice that hurt and cut up your face, you could barely breathe, and it was held on by a big rubberband on the back of your head.

LOL I found one of my dad from 86 or 87.... with my brother and me when I was a baby

he was the king of the 80s (and 70s...and 60s... long hair and handlebar mustache in my parents wedding photos)

aviators, cutoff denim shorts, skull and crossbones 'death or glory' tattoo, and last but not least the STACHE

He's a state trooper mind you..... I can hear the CHiPS theme song playing

I was definitely a child of the 90's....I wore dark brown and dark brick red lipstick in 6th grade . Jelly platform sandals....then in HS I tried to be Hot Topic chic and wore plaid miniskirts with fishnets and combat boots, everything cherry for accessories, and powdered my face white a few times

Re: Saturday QOTD 4/3

Well I grew up in the 80s but luckily there was private school and a strict mom and by the time I was making fashion decisions for myself it was the 90s and we were coming out of those phases. There were snap bracelets, double socks, neon and hyper color but nothing that made me go... WHAT WAS I THINKING???

My bangs in the 90s however, ugg!!

Also while I totally pulled it off I am not sure the plaid skirts and cardigans - Clueless style, was the best look for a high school sophomore.

Re: Saturday QOTD 4/3

I was born in 1982 so I was a total 80s kid with the scrunchie socks, side ponytail, and the neon colors. UGH then in the 90s I got into the Clueless movie style and wore those TERRIBLE thigh high socks w/ loafers and the plaid skirts. Then I went through a time when I'd only wear band tshirts like around 1997/98 ish. Then I got super girly again. I have pics but I dunno if I have any on the comp.

However the HIGH HEEL OBSESSION has been on since this age....

oh God - I feel old! I may be the only NW on here that was born prior to 1970!! Yikes!

On that note - I've been through just about every bad fashion trend you could possibly imagine.

It would crack me up because when everyone was planning their bachelorette parties and the Awesome 80's prom was mentioned.....my REAL prom was in 1985 and it was AWESOME!! 'nuff said!

I totally agree. A 80's child is one that was born before the actual 80's because we could actually remember the fashion/music & hair! BIG HAIR! lol
