Savings per month

Since a lot of us are saving for a house, I figured we could give some advice, tips, etc.

And I'm curious how much do you save per month? You dont have to answer that in here, but answer the poll!

********************************************************

We have an ING and once I get paid (twice a month), I make sure to first put a good chunk into that ING savings account. Can't just pay the bills- gotta pay yourself too!

We took the advice of a family member and chose to begin living off of one salary and banking the other. We don't even look at my $ when it comes it - it goes straight to ING. We've been doing this for 5 months now and so far so good. If you're able to do this, it's a great idea!

this is our goal. but we really havent sat down to discuss logistics yet

This is what we are trying to do now that hubby is back to work. I think after Christmas time it will be easier and we will do it completely. It's definitely a GREAT idea.

Re: Savings per month

I really dont pay attention lol...dh does most of the money stuff.

I always put half of my paycheck in savings.

Ideally, we would like to cut back and live just on DH's paycheck so we can put all of mine in savings.

Re: Savings per month

Right now it's just our wedding money and Dh's comp check sitting in our joint savings for the house. We put a little bit in each week but now that he got this pay increase and passed that big test, we're going to see what his check is each week and then HOPEFULLY live on that and bank my check.

When I was working, that's what we did. We banked a ton of money last year doing just that!

Re: Savings per month

We work with a financial planner, he is free and offers products for us (life insurance, etc), but is a great help for anyone in any financial condition. If anyone is interested, I can refer you.

We had to lay out our monthly expenses for him and he has advised us how to maximize our 401k, IRA, and other saving accounts. He told us where we need to cut our expenses a bit more and its not that much different from our lifestyle before, instead we are now putting more away.

Even if you don't work with a planner, making a reasonable budget for yourself is really important.
