I am just curious, did anybody sell their weddign dress? I can't bring myself up to doing it, al least not yet! I had mine cleaned and put in a box, thinking that my daughter/grand-daughter will want to wear it on her day, but really, what are the chances! Meanwhile, I have quite a large amount or money in the form of a lot of white silk just sitting in a box in my closet! Hmmm...

Re: Sentiment vs. common sense!
I am still trying to unload mine, I have not sentimental feelings towards it, I value my bo-k more than I do my dress, go figure. Where the heck am I going to wear it to ever again?? I wish I had rented a dress
shamma...I think that renting a dress would have been better for me as well...
I don't have sentimental feelings for my dress...I'm just to lazy to sell it

Re: Sentiment vs. common sense!
What if I have all sons, which one will wear it. By the time my daughter if I ever have one, gets married, my dress will be old fashion

Re: Sentiment vs. common sense!
Im not a sentimental person really but Im not selling my dress.
Its one of those things that once its gone, I could never get it back. Granted, I may not even have children and even if I did, they probably wont want to wear it as it...but they could have it altered or at least use the material for something.
If I dont have kids or they dont want to use it, Im going to have it altered to be a fab dress for my 50th anniversay party or something.
I WILL get another use out of it before Im dead! (even if it means they line my coffin with the satin) ahhahahhha

Re: Sentiment vs. common sense!
I listed mine on ebay and I got a lot of views but no hits. The funny thing is my dress is listed again this year as one of my designer's best carry over styles.

A girl I know is thinking of having her A-line dress died black to wear to formals... She hasn't done it yet, though

Re: Sentiment vs. common sense!
stef, I hear you! I kind of want to sell it but dont, you know what I mean? When I am an old wrinkly old bag I want to open that box and have a few teary moments! Like you said, if you sell it you will never get it back!

Re: Sentiment vs. common sense!
Sentimentality plays a big part but common sense is not completely lost. Here is my logic:
I think I would feel less attached to it if I knew I could get a few thousand back for it...but realistically, people who spend several thousand on a gown do not want a used one if you know what Im saying. I dont blame them either.
Just on principle alone, I would not sell my dress just to make a few hundred bucks. The alterations alone cost that or the raw material would cost more..rather have the option of figuring out another use for it down the road.

Re: Sentiment vs. common sense!
I had mine restored- it's in a box all puffed out & pretty sitting in my Mom's house. I'm hoping my daughter or my sister or someone will want to wear it one day.

Re: Sentiment vs. common sense!
I can't bring myself to throw away pieces of paper...let alone my wedding dress. I had it preserved and will keep it with the hopes that my daughters, granddaughters and/or nieces will wear it one day.

Re: Sentiment vs. common sense!
I never thought that I'd be attached to my dress, but someone did offer to buy it from me (for about 1/2 of what I paid for it) and for all the reasons that Stef mantioned, I turned them down.
I was afraid that I *might* regret it later and I'd never be able to get it back.
