Sentiment vs. common sense!

Original post by What-Now

I am just curious, did anybody sell their weddign dress? I can't bring myself up to doing it, al least not yet! I had mine cleaned and put in a box, thinking that my daughter/grand-daughter will want to wear it on her day, but really, what are the chances! Meanwhile, I have quite a large amount or money in the form of a lot of white silk just sitting in a box in my closet! Hmmm...

Original price was just about $3000. She got really lucky... the style was popular I guess and she had like three people bidding on it...

Stef I love your idea of using it again someday, and i feel the same way, darn it!

i keep telling DH that if we have a daughter and she doesn't want it, then he is taking me out for our 30th anniversary and i am cutting that thing short and wearing it darn it!

i also have thought about selling it, but then i remember playing with my mom's and my grandmother's when my cousin and i were little girls. collecting BO-K's from the garden and making veils out of scarves. such wonderful memories.

as Master Card says, priceless.

(plus - i just don't think i could get enough to make the hastle of trying to sell it worth it!)

Can't sell it. We are turning my Train into a Christening Gown for our babies!

Same here. Have it boxed and preserved, and doubt anyone will wear it again, but I can not part with it.

I will hopefully one day have a daughter, when I will take my train off the dress and make a Christening gown.

I can't bring myself to get rid of my gown either. I loved my gown! It was one of my favorite parts of the day.

For those of you thinking of getting rid of it, I found someone who is donating it to 'Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation'.

From their website:
Thousands of women across America and from seven countries around the world have donated one of their most treasured and prized possessions to make a difference in someone's life. Bridal shops and manufactures have also donated thousands of beautiful new, designer gowns. These gowns are sold in a nationwide tour of gowns, called 'Brides Against Breast Cancer.' Over 32 shows will be held during 2003 where they may be tried on and purchased for upcoming weddings.

The contribution of your wedding gown provides the needed funds to fulfill last and dying wishes, while giving you the satisfaction of knowing that this gift will once again provide one of the 'happiest moments' in a person's life.

Here's the website if anyone wants more info.

I was going to sell my dress but my DH doesn't want me to.

He is more sentimental about it than I am.

Awwww!!

Don't think I'll sell it unless someone close to me asked. When I was a little girl, I always thought I'd wear my Mom's gown. She said hers was inexpensive and plain and she wanted me to have my own. Maybe I will save mine to pass on also to a daughter, granddaughter or niece!

I never gave selling my dress a thought. I would liike to someday pass it down if I ever have a girl, or maybe have part of the train made into a christianing ourfit

I'm a sap ... I just could never give my dress away. Hopefully, I could alter and wear it again someday, if my daughter doesn't want to wear it.

I still actually have my sweet sixteen dress and my prom dress - now that's sad and to sentimental.
