I have a funeral to attend tomorrow, and I went out today and bought an appropriate outfit. At the store, the pants were too long, and I knew this, but I assumed that the heel on the boots that I was planning to wear was high enough to keep my pants from dragging on the floor. When I got home, I found out that the only shoes I own with a high enough heel are open toed. Since there is snow on the ground I figured that open toed shoes were an obvious NO, but my friend says I can get away with them.
What do you think???

Re: Shoe question
I would say no because its a funeral. If you were going to a wedding or other social celebration, the snow wouldn't deter me from wearing open toe. But I think funerals require a more somber winter shoe. JMO.
if it were warmer, I'd be ok with the open toe at a funeral. I'm not sure why I think it matters...

Re: Shoe question
I think you can get away with it. With a black pantyhose on, no one will look at your feet.

LOL Lisa, I understand exactly how you feel, and can't explain it either!

Re: Shoe question
How early is the funeral? If you have an hour or two in the morning, you may be able to get a dry cleaner to shorten the pants... Also a big NO for the sandals

Re: Shoe question
see my other issue is, I hate open toe with stockings/tights. Sorry Jenn.
Honestly, very few people will notice. But I'd know, and not be comfortable.
Can you get hem tape and take the pants up temporarily?

Re: Shoe question
Unfortunately, I also have an open toe/pantyhose phobia. AND the pants have a cuff at the bottom, so I can't even tape them up. This stinks.

Re: Shoe question
No open toe shoes.
Can you run out tonight to get a pair of black pumps?
I would do that.

Re: Shoe question
I just spent 3 days at wake/funeral and I can tell you that I don't know what anyone was wearing on their feet.
Your presence overides any fashion faux pas. And anyone who would make an issue over it is being really petty.

Re: Shoe question
I think its more about what Jenn's comfortable with, not what others will think. I don't think she expects anyone to 'make an issue' out of it.
btw, so sorry to hear you both have/had funerals to attend.

Re: Shoe question
Jenn, can you fold the cuff under and use tape? You could iron the bottom for a nice sharp edge...

Re: Shoe question
That's a good idea... maybe I can fold it under... THANKS! Off to try it out!!
Oh, and yes, the shoe thing is more for me than anyone else. I am sure my presence won't be noticed by many ~ there will be too many people caught up in the sorrow of the situation, I just want to feel comfortable walking out of the house.

Re: Shoe question
I also hate stockings with open toe shoes...so i vote no on that solution.
Honestly - I dont think anyone in mourning is going to care what shoes you are wearing provided they are not completely outrageous. They will be happy you came to honor their friend/relative.

Re: Shoe question
You might be super cold and get snow between your toes, but anyone who comments on your shoes at a funeral is someone who is just not there for the right reasons. This isn't a fashion show.
