Warning don't read my post if u haven't seen it, spoiler!!!
We saw it last night and loved it, Martin Scorese (spelled wrong probably) makes such amazing movies and always with a good twist.
Although I knew about 20 mins into about the wife. I just wasn't a 100% on him.
One question for the ladies that saw it...DH and I both agreed at the very end he didn't relapse, that he kind of wanted to die to be put out of his misery. What did you think?

I absolutly agree with that ending....he was so disturbed about his life he didn't want to deal with the reality of what had really happened and where he really was.

Re: Shutter Island
Well i think the psych ward was on to him, because if his wife really did killl there 3 kids, he wouldnt keep dreaming in the beggining about her burning...I think he did come there looking for Lattice but it was a set up. Esp when he was interviewing one of the crazy women who asked his 'partner' to go get her a glass of water, and she wrote RUN on his notebook. She was trying to help him. SHe knew the partner...and just didnt want to say it infron of him...Esp in the end of the movie his last words were he'd rather die a hero than live like a monster...I think he wanted to die aka get the lobotomy done (ur more or less brai dead) but he didnt want to admit that yes hes crazy and yes he belong there in teh psych ward....
I dont know all in all it was such a twist!! High recommended....no its not scary, its just a guess a thriller for those of u who dont like scary movies

Re: Shutter Island
again spoiler alert
okay so I have a question - in the book, the whole thing is a set-up to try to 'cure' him so the WHOLE island is involved in the pantomine of him being a doctor because they are trying to prove that psychology can work. . and that he was actually Laeddis (the guy he thought he was looking for) . .sounds like that's different, is it?

No thats what I got from the movie based on what Ben Kingley's character says when they are in the lighthouse.
What the movie also has is that his memory comes back and he sort of makes peace with his past. But then they show him the next day and he calls the doctor by his 'partner' name. So the doctor and Ben Kingley's character realize he didn't get better from the experiment of letting him take over the island and decide to lobotomize him. And so the audience is left to think he is still kinda crazy but then he says to the Dr. if he thinks it would be worse to live as a monster or die as a good man, leaving it unclear whether he had a relapse or is just pretending to be delusion in order to have a permanent escape from reality.
