SIL drama

SIL drama

Okay...I hate being a downer, but I just need to vent here about my SIL because I feel bad talking bad about her to my Dh (it is his sister).

So this past weekend a group of my girlfriends and I did a girls' weekend at Foxwoods...kind of a 1 year anniversary from my bachelorette party...we plan to do it annually. Anyways, SIL had seen us talking about it on Facebook and kind of mentioned she wanted to come. I honestly didn't want her there for many reasons, mostly because she is rude, immature, cheap and makes stupid comments. But, since I am nice and I try to get along with her, I invited her to come along...and she came . So we're there Saturday when my friend realizes she totally forgot her ID! It ******, but whatever, we made the most of it, had dinner, gambled, and drank at the casino bar. My friend forgetting her ID didn't really ruin anything and didn't hold us back at all. So during dinner I get a text message and it is from SIL. It says, 'Cari's stupid friend forgot her ID. This is going to be a horrible night and a waste of money.' Clearly the text was NOT meant for me...it was meant for a friend of hers, but it went to me. I never said anything about it and neither did she. But I am soooo annoyed. I mean seriously...NO ONE wanted you there and then you come and act as if you were forced to come and you are miserable. Just pissed me off.

She also made a comment to me in front of all my friends that was so rude. My friends were talking about having babies and I said that DH and I want to wait, because we want to travel and do things for ourselves for a few years. And SIL goes, 'With what money???' LIke seriously *****?? Who is she to comment about my financial situation. She was completely out of line and totally emabarrassed me.

Anyways, I told DH about all this and he begged me not to say anythign to her and just be nice. But I think that either he should say something about her attitude, or I should. But why does she get to get away with being so obnoxious?

Sorry this is so long, I just really needed to get this off my chest.

wow!!!!!!!!!

cari i am so sorry..what she did was totally uncalled for and very childish...i think u have 2 options and u r entitled to do both..

1.call her out..dont have to be super mean..just be like i think u sent me a text that was supposed to go to someone else..so she knows u know..

2.forget it..for now..but next year when the trip comes up..do not invite her and when she asks why bring it up

again im sorry she did this and i hope u guys had a good weekend anyway

I guess it's too late for what my response would've been...........I would've responded to her text and said something to the tune of 'Funny, we're having a wonderful time anyway.......'

You could still text her back and say something like that........'Just wanted you to know, despite XXX forgetting her ID, we had a fantastic time.' Short, sweet, and totally calling her out.

OMG, where were you girls Saturday night when I needed a reply??? I totally wish I said that. I guess I just didn't want to start drama and ruin everyone else's time. Plus, DH begged me to ignore it and not say anything.

Thanks for listening girls!

WOW... I totally see why you didnt want her there in the first place... Like Gina said... you need to say something to her, she shouldnt be able to get away with that... ITs not that she was just obnoxious or rude... but she made you embarrassed and you shouldnt take it

IMO-you really should talk to her-nicely of course. I’ve learned that if you let people get away with things, they keep doing them.

Hey Cari!

I was just thinkin about you the other day... I miss seeing you post!!
Did you see they put that pedestrian sitting/walkway on Broadway between 17th and 18th? Right by where we work! It's cute... I have yet to sit there but I do plan on it one day.

Anyway, back to your situation. I think you should have responded to the text right then and there. I would have written something equally as rude back. Like 'Sorry you feel this is going to be a waste of money and a horrible night. If you feel this way, just look for the EXIT signs and follow them home'.

At this point though, I think mentioning something about the nasty rude comment regarding money is after the fact. Instead, I would save this for the next time she makes a rude comment and I'd say something back. If she has something to say in return, then you can remind her of the last time she spoke out of line to you. Just to show her the trend of it.

If you do want to say anything to her about the rude money comment or the text... perhaps you could confront her in a conversational manner.

She def seems out of line and I don't think she will stop unless she see's the error of her ways. So staying mum about it all.... then expect to hear more things from her.

It's none of her business what money situation you are in and that's just a rude comment to make.

Yes, seriously. She deserves to be knocked down a peg or two! How ungrateful ... she invited herself and then complained about being there ... what a bitchh!

Hey Kerri!!!! I didn't see the area yet! I gotta go check it out. We still need to meet up for lunch one day! AHhhhh.

Anyways, thanks for the advice...I think I do need to say something, I am just bad at confrontation and I don't want to start drama with the ILs. Everyone knows the way SIL is, they just tend to let her get away with her crap and say, 'Oh that's just Alyson.'

yes we sure do have to meet for lunch!!! :)
the tables and chairs look really cute. I think they even stretched it all around to barnes and noble and I think it looks like they are going to do it to the other side too.

Alyson is the way she is because no one puts her in her place. It's probably been that way her whole life.

I think with comments AND then the text..... and getting away with both will only make her feel like she CAN say and do these things and get away with it each and every time.

I'm not saying go start a war over it... it beat the fool up or anything. But just a quick... 'hey that was rude' after she makes a comment like that.... or a response to let her know you saw that text and make her feel uncomfortable about it; just enough so that she thinks twice next time before she opens her mouth.

I am sorry. Wow she was rude. I probably would have responded to the text saying 'I think this was supposed to be sent to someone else.' just so she knows that you saw it.
