sleeping issues... any other light sleepers out there?

For a while now, my sleeping patterns have been erratic. I find myself waking up a lot more easily from noises (DH turning over, the dog snoring, even the wind outside!)

I don't want to turn to prescription meds because they can be dangerous and I can't afford to be groggy in the morning, but lately I feel like a zombie and I over-caffeinate to compensate.

SIL suggested Melatonin - anyone tried it? Other advice, PLEASE! I want to catch some

Re: sleeping issues... any other light sleepers out there?

So sorry you're going through this. Is there something on your mind? Something bothering you? That sometimes causes sleep to be disrupted. DH would feel hung over from Tylenol PMs so he went with CVS brand melatonin and it seemed to do the trick with no day after side effects.

Good luck!!

are you able to sleep at all? maybe the caffeine you drink during the day is keeping you up at night?

Nothing really on my mind (none other than the usual LOL) Tylenol PM knocks me out too and I feel fuzzy the next day. I'll try the melatonin! I think it's even safe for kids...

do you exercise? sometimes that helps. i am an AWFUL sleeper , since i was a teenager. ive tried melatonin and it didnt do anything to me, but you should def try it. do yo uhave any physical issues that may affect your sleep? i have fibromyalgia and that causes me to wake up in the middle of the night all the time. i take a prescription sleep aid and i have no problem with it.

I use melatonin every night. I use Nature's Bounty - I buy it at Waldbaums. 120 tablets for less than 10 dollars. 3mg and I cut them in half and it totally does the trick!

I was having the same issue...I would fall asleep fine but get up aorund 2 or 3 and then have real issues getting back to bed.

Only thing that helped me was Xanax.

Re: sleeping issues... any other light sleepers out there?

I've tried melatonin and that did nothing. I'm just a wound up kinda person. I work 12.5 hr shifts (people lives are in my hands) and wake up at 5am so a good nights sleep is imperative for me. I take ambien (5-10mg depending on my 'wiredness'). It helps a little, but if I take 5 mg I'll wake up at 4am on the dot. I just try to function on 6 hrs/night.

Re: sleeping issues... any other light sleepers out there?

i have been having awful sleeping issues lately. DH got me melatonin about a week ago. I've taken it every night and it's the greatest thing ever for me. it's worth a shot.

Re: sleeping issues... any other light sleepers out there?

When I really can't fall asleep I take one SImply Sleep (you're supposed to take two.) It's enough to help me fall asleep but not so much I'm tired the next day.

I also wear earplugs to bed, bc every little sound used to wake me up. Now I don't really need them anymore but I've gotten so used to them I can't sleep without them!
