Sleeping problems -- anyone know what this could be from?

Sleeping problems -- anyone know what this could be from?

Okay, first of all I've been dealing with this since I was a kid, so its nothing new, but I'm thinking of seeing a doctor. I have a lot of trouble falling asleep at night (sometimes it takes me an hour to fall asleep) and then, even if I get 12 hours of sleep, I wake up feeling tired and exhausted. No matter how much sleep I get at night I spend the day yawning and feeling like I want to go back to bed. I've ALWAYS had bags under my eyes (like even in baby pictures) and my mom said even as a baby I had the same problems. I'm not sure if its normal or if its a sleeping disorder, but DH is insisting I see a doctor and he feels its completely abnormal. Anyone know what this could be or have a similar problem??

My DH has the same issues. Sometimes he doesn't come to bed until 4 in the morning, and even then he has trouble getting to sleep. And he's always tired during the day. He thinks he's just on a different sleeping pattern than most people.

Seeing a doctor probably isn't a bad idea. You may have a form of sleep apnia (SP?) or something along those lines. Can't hurt.

I have always been the same way too. I went to a doctor to be tested since I hated always being so tired i was actually hoping I had mono or epstein barr because then at least I would know why I felt the way I did and an excuse to sleep all day. All of my test results came back normal I was so mad because I hate feelingthis way.
I have gone a few times since to donate blood and they can't take from me since I have low iron. I think that can contribute to feeling tired. I have also found since I started going to the gym I have a lot more energy and am able to sleep better at night. Hopefully the doctor will have information for you. I know what it is like and I hate it especially on Monday!!

I was in the same boat, but have improved somewhat over the last few years.....

things (off the top of my head, so its not a complete list) that disturb sleep and cause daytime tiredness include:
thyroid problems
other metabolic disorders
low iron
mono
anxiety disorders
depression
obesity-which leads to sleep apnea
other nightime breathing issues such as snoring

I have epstein barr so I can relate! My sister just went to the doc and is now receiving vitamin B shots- she was having similar problems and they found her levels were really low! I'd def go to the doc!!

Um super napper here!

I am ALWAYS ALWAYS tired! I can sleep 10 hours at night and still want a nap 3 hours after I got up.

I would see a Doctor, you may have low iron-supposedly this makes you tired and you can take an iron supplement. My iron isnt low enough to cause me to be this tired so we dontknow what my issue is yet

I LOOOVE to nap.. and even though I take a mild sedative at night, sometimes it doesn't put me to sleep that I end up taking an Advil PM and that helps.. I would definitely see a Dr and see what they say..

Maybe try and take a multi vitaman (I swear by Women's One a Day) and a B Complex.. that should give you more energy in the day time.

yep....its from everything you have going on...its catching up with you.
You got married, moved to a new state, moved homes.........you were on robot mode to get it all done, now you're settling in, and its catching up with your head and coming out in your sleep.
It'll fix itself......not so abnormal. Totally psychological.

Do you find yourself restless at night time?

Also do you read or watch TV often in bed?

I have a similar problem. I don't have trouble falling asleep (rarely) but I can sleep for hours on end and still be tired when I get up. I often fall asleep during the day, in meetings, at my desk, driving...It's so bad. I see a neurologist for my migraines and he wanted to send me for a sleep apnea test, but I never went because it freaks me out.. You should go to the doctor just to get checked out and put your mind at ease.

Well.......I have a thyroid problem and my meds really help, but like you, I can't fall asleep easily but can sleep for hours once i'm in bed. I would see a doc about it. If you can stay up until the wee hours you just might be a normal night owl. Some people just do better being awake at night and sleeping during the day. I'm VERY much like that so I work 7p-7a and I have a job that allows for that. If you're a 'night' person on a day scehd and vice versa life....*****

If you're falling asleep (eventually) and waking up tired - especially if you are sleeping through the night - then I would suspect some sort of sleeping disorder like sleep apnea or some other health problem that is causing you to lack energy (like the pp mentioned - thyroid issues).

Definitely discuss it with your doctor - can't hurt to ask! It can really only help.

I've suffered from periodic insomnia for years... but never really found anything that works. Now I cherish a good night's sleep when I get it!
