Re: SMART CAR

i have wanted one of those for years (since way before they were in the us). unfortunately we already have a car (honda fit - the smart car wasn't out when we bought it ) that we never use since we're in brooklyn and is sitting at my parent's house, so we're not likely to buy another one unless we move somewhere where we really need it. in that case, the smart car it is!

sorry i am not a midget just like I am not a person who needs a hummer to feel important. Too tiny for me to feel safe even though I am sure it is unless a truck hits it going 80 (which would never happen in the city).

wow just wow, Im trying to understand what being a midget has to do with the smart car, maybe bc its tiny ooooooooh thats a good one.

The president of the company I work for-his brother just bought one and loves it. He is over 6' feet tall and says its roomy enough for him and his wife->who is also tall.

I guess I must 'think' I am important since I own a hummer

My DH has one! He loves it! He just got it this May but he ordered it May of '07. When I was looking to buy a new car I had to keep in mind that the car I got had to be big enough if we wanted to start a family in the next few years lol. It's a cool car-great on gas mileage he gets about 35 mpg consistently and that's about half highway/half local driving. I feel pretty safe in it-the only thing that bothers me is when you hit a bump-you feel everything. That wouldn't bother me so much but I'm used to my car. There's a dealership in St. James/Smithtown-not sure where you're located but it might be worth checking it out with a test drive. Feel free to FM me if you have more questions. Here's a pic:

ty for the input I will FM you soon with more q. I need to test drive. That pic is adorable.

Sorry to crash...but I say go for it. I sat in one at the Auto show last year and could totally see myself driving one.
I am a small car driver (I own a MINI Cooper). I LOVE it. I laugh all the time when people say things about it being small and unsafe. I rolled (yes flipped over) in my last one which was a convertible and FH and I walked away fine (all he had was a scratch on his arm from his window breaking).

OMG how did that happen?

I think its more of a mental thing about not being safe. Look at SUV's, they are alot easier to flip over and infact they advise not to go over a certain MPH bc SUV's flip over easier than a sedan would.

For me when i drive a bigger car, I feel differently when i am driving it. I noticed that when i drive a big car compared to a small car, i also have a different view of the road. When i was driving a truck for years i was so used to it and then driving something smaller i realized that i would have to check my side mirrors ALOT more, but thats also bc big cars have the huge side mirrors so you can see all the lanes across, with a small car to see further away i had to really look at it and move my head different ways to get the view i used to get.

I am sure they are just as safe as other cars on the road.

These smart cars are so cute I sat in one the other day and I feel like I don't even need to park it I could put it in my pocketbook.

Are you giys sure about prices for these cars? I read an article that said that these cars are made by Mercedes, so they start at about $35K.

I hate to crush your decision..but in consumer reports they weren't rated very well..particulary in crashes....I think the road score was in the 20's

You see they everywhere in Italy! I love them, but for safety reasons I would not drive one. Nicky's cousin has one here!!!

Yeah they are made by Mercedes but they're not that expensive. My DH's cost about 19 and that was with an extended warranty and the better sound system, and some other extras. I heard the consumer reports were terrible.
