Snow Removal

So my poor parents are 58-59 years old and are getting killed this winter. My dad can barely walk due to shoveling and snow blowing the house. He's a little crazy to what he does with the snow blower but it does make it easier to get around the house outside PLUS with this amount of snow this winter it's a GREAT idea that he takes care of it each time.

ANYWAY, I just posted on FB to see if there is anyone out there in FP that wouldn't mind making some extra money this winter and I'll hire them to take care of the snow the rest of the winter. Now here's my question:

What should I pay the person? $10 an hour? $10 an inch? $$ a snowstorm? HELP!

TIA!

Re: Snow Removal

ask them how much they want?
i'd do it for free if i was local.. i hate it when i see older people are shoveling/snow blowing on their own.

Re: Snow Removal

I'd ask how much they want too... depending on the size of the snow storm, you could give them a price for the whole job per storm (a la 'i've give you $50 to do the whole driveway) or just agree on a per hour rate for the rest of the winter, regardless of how much snow each storm makes.

Re: Snow Removal

My parents have a service that comes to their house - only if it's over 3 inches of snow. They normally do a phenomenal job - corner house with the back walkway too. They also put ice melt stuff down but because of the dogs they're not supposed to. I think it's $60 or $70 each time they come...which this year has been SO worth it. I can find out the contact info if you want.

Re: Snow Removal

I've seen people paying $60-70 for 2 hours of work.

Lauren, are your parents still in FP?
Yeah if you could find out the information that would be GREAT! It would TOTALLY be worth it for my parents and I'd be happy to pay for it so they don't have to worry about it anymore. Figure, they pay a landscaper during the summer, why not just continue to pay for services in the winter.

Thanks girls! I really appreciate your input!
