I think that if 40 coincides with someone's 70th, you should do the 35th party, and then do a 70th BDAY party when the time comes.
My cousins did this for their parents.
I'm screwed because I was 25 when I got married. So, everything is going to coincide for me

Yup def. a suprise. I'm not sure where yet. I still have a year to plan it! Probably around 75 people. Nothing too crazy... DH thinks they will be really embarassed as it is. I was going to do everything with my bil & sil but honestly I am afraid to even tell my sil b/c she is such a blabbermouth and I KNOW she will ruin the suprise

I don't think it's odd - I think it's a great idea and I wouldn't wait.

We just threw a surprise 40th for my parents this past January. It was a huge hit! I say that if you can afford to do it, by all means go for it.

Do it. Not to be a downer, but we lost my mom and dad shortly after their 32nd anniversary and we assumed we would have many more to celebrate. Tomorrow is promised to no one, so if you can afford it, I would say go for it. It's great to see extended family for the happy occasions.

My parent's 35th is later this month. I didn't plan anything, but I just realized that ist is their 35th. We didn't do anything for their 25th, so I think we shoudl do soemthing, but they aren't into parties, so it would be low-key. But I'm with you, I think it should be celebrated.
