social security/name change question
did anyone change their license, credit cards, etc. but not their ss card?i have my license changed and i'm thinking i need to change my cc and bank stuff so my id matches but i don't want to change with ss until after i file my taxes...

DARN - I forgot about this.SS was the first thing I changed despite the fact that I had received the advice that you described in your post. Oh well, wedding brain and now we're gonna pay for it.
I had just heard that many girls start with SS and continue the process from there so I didn't think twice about it. I would just stick to your plan and change your SS card shortly after filing taxes.

why do you want to wait till you file your taxes?what difference does that make... you can still file joint or seperate regardless

my parents tax advisor mentioned there were 'benefits' to not switching your name...regardless of whether you file joint/seperate. of course I don't remember the details (he mentioned this last year when he was filing my taxes and knew my wedding was in 2010) and of course i forgot to heed his advice.

i believe it has something to do with a hefty tax associated with marriage but i really don't recall.

do you mind finding out? lol because i dont understand it... what the changing your name have to do with it... you still have to file that youre married whether you file jointly or seperate...
