that I have not sent mine out yet??? Duet is kind of far from me so I just ordered them last week. They will HOPEFULLY get here by next week. I am a little embarassed b/c it has been 3 months already and I have to see ALL of DH's family ( the women anyway) at SIL's shower this weekend
Im getting ready for the dirty looks!! Its the first time I have really seen everyone since the wedding.

Re: Speaking about Thank yous... Is it horrible
Well, I don't think it is horrible. I honestly think you should give yourself 6 months. I think the 3 month thing is too much pressure.
That's why I feel bad, I sending this one Thank you and it is 7 months later.

Try to get the cards out as quickly as you can. People do get upset if a long time goes by. We did ours in a little over 3 months.
DH's cousin took 6 months and A LOT of people were making fun of that bride.

Do you really think that is true though? I STILL have a few ty's to send out and I feel pretty bad, but we also have had to deal with a lot of serious family issues so far this year and have gotten sidetracked. All this talk about late ty's always gets me upset because in all honesty, some situations prevent the bride from getting them out quickly enough.
ETA: Sorry to turn it into my own vent, but I think people should realize that maybe there are reasons when thank yous don't go out soon enough.

I just hit my 6 month anniversary and have some thank you's left too do. Honestly, I can't imagine someone making fun of the bride and groom for sending them out 6 months after their wedding. I think that is so PETTY and I wouldn't give it a second thought if I got a late thank you. People have lives!

this etiquette crap is getting out of hand! ppl are making too big of a deal over nothing. it's just annoying to hear that it's OH NO! SHE MADE A FAUX PAS! LET'S TALK BEHIND HER BACK. i know that's not exactly what ppl do, per se, but there are better things to occupy ourselves with. like what lullabella said, ppl have lives.

ok, if you think it's okay to send them out later, don't worry about how long it takes, then.
Speaking generally, and not directing this at anyone in particular: IMO, outside of some special circumstance, it shouldn't take 6 months or more to mail a preprinted card.
In the situation I mentioned earlier, this bride had enough time to mail invites to her e-party in August, bridal shower that same October, and wedding that same November. So, it was pretty laughable that it took her 6 months to send us all a preprinted thank you card. She was fast enough when it came to inviting us to parties, but I guess didn't have the time to properly thank anyone for the gifts she was given.

I literally had mine out the door two weeks afterwards. But that's my nature...I don't like to procrastinate on anything.

You're old-school
The original etiquette was 2 weeks. But, with the advent of longer honeymoons and including photos, it increased to 1-3 months.

I think it's less of an etiquette-faux pas, and more of being just plain rude. We spend countless hours planning the wedding, people have the courtesy to bring a gift, and then when it's over, we suddenly 'don't have the time' to write a thank-you note? Rude.

Re: Speaking about Thank yous... Is it horrible
It's only 7 weeks since I got married and I hate that I haven't gotten mine out yet. IMO this isn't an instance of etiquette, it's just courtesy. I do notice how long it takes to get a TY card and honestly, do get pretty annoyed when they're late. If I can make the effort and use my time to go to a wedding or other event, I don't see why the honoree can't take the time after the event to sit down and write a simple TY.
JMO.
ETA: someone mentioned major family issues... I think that's reasonable, of course, and the exception to the rule. But just 'life' is not an excuse to be rude.

Ok, I still think it is petty to think that way.

You are fine!!! Try not to worry about this so much and get them out as soon as you can. You only got married in Feb; no catastrophe as far as I am concerned. This is why I do not like these sorts of threads, I am in a similar situation and they make me feel horrible to read!!

No! Hey listen.... I really think this 3 month rule is ridiculous. First of all, every wedding I went to the year of my wedding I received TYs after the 6 months mark. I sent mine out around the 6 month mark.
You are barely over the 3 month mark.
I say 6 months is the new 3 months.

Thanks everyone!!! Its not that I'm 'lazy' or just dont care. It took me a while to decide on a picture and I honestly couldn't make the HOUR ride to duet just to pick a TY picture. When I went I was able to pick my TY, do my album, and do my video all in one trip. And my thank you's wont be 'pre-printed' thank yous as someone mentioned. I sent my Shower TY'S out a week after the shower and they were so long they were practically letters. Everyone said they had never recieved such a nice and personal thank you.

Don't worry about it. Honestly, I don't notice how late wedding thank yous are because I know that most brides are waiting for the photos. I like to get them mainly to know that the person actually did receive the gift, especially if I sent it to them rather than give it to them in person.

Re: Speaking about Thank yous... Is it horrible
Maxine, I don't think anyone meant this as a dig on you. I think it spiralled into 'it's crazy to do them so fast' to 'it's rude to do them too late' to 'pre-printed versus hand-written'
All I meant by my response is, yes, in all honesty, many women do notice if thank you cards are really late in arriving, especially if they're only preprinted cards. And, 'life' really isn't a good excuse to take a really long time in sending them out (this is barring a special situation/issue).
After attending a wedding and giving a gift, many people look forward to the TY as a confirmation that you received the gift, especially if cash is given, as well as a token of appreciation for the gift that was given.
