Spending night #2 alone...

Spending night #2 alone...

DH is a new Police Officer and just started a 3 week rotation of 7pm - 7am shifts. Last night was the first night I slept without him since we've been married. I could not get to sleep to save my life, it doesn't help that I'm still getting used to the whole Cop thing and I worry about him. The next 3 weeks are going to be hell. He'll be leaving for work around 6pm (before I get home) and I leave for work at 7:30am (before he gets home). If we're lucky we'll pass one another on the LIE. I don't like being a cop's wife!

As a fireman's wife, I understand where you are coming from. I came from a family of cops, so I grew up with that schedule and the constant worrying. I always said I would never marry a cop, then I went ahead and married a fireman. Anyway, just wanted to say I know how you feel, you will get used to it, and there are a few of us on here (cop/fireman wives) if you ever need to vent!

I send you many hugs. I can imagine how hard it must be, first to not be able to fall asleep with your husband and be on a totally different work schedule and second, be a police officers wife. I give you both a lot of credit. I'm sure that it will all be worth it in the end.

Hang in there I am in the same boat. Look at it this way, he will retire young. My Dh only has 9 years left nad hes 32 now.
I hate being alone but with childcare it may be our only way. You will kind of get used to it after a while. On his days off you will really cherish that time. I do.

I know where you are coming from! Right now, we are waiting to hear when my DH is going to be sent out of the country. It could be a week or two and it scares the hell out of me!

The nights alone get easier and they won't last forever. The part about worrying, that's a little tougher to get used to, but it's something we have to deal with. You just have to have faith that he will always be safe. I know I pray A LOT!

Re: Spending night #2 alone...

I'm sorry

My husband works 2pm-4am when he works nights sod I can relate.. every other night of the week I can be tired but when he does his night work I am wired and can't sleep.. luckily for me I am not working so I can be home when he is home, we did the working alternating hours and it wasen't worth it for our family or relationship.

On the bright side it is only for a few more weeks. My husband is Active Duty USAF so when his night work ends it is normally for a deployment :( so if you ever need anyone to talk to at nights feel free to PM me and I can give you my AIM.

That makes me think, we are all pretty lucky that we are 'Cop Wives' and not the wives of those serving overseas. I can't imagine what those wives go through, being alone night after night and wondering if thier husbands are safe. I don't think I could be that strong!

Re: Spending night #2 alone...

My DH works for DSNY and has been on all the miserable shifts, 4 PM - 12, Midinght to 8 AM, and most recently 7PM to 7AM. So I understand how hard it is for you. It took aat least a year, but I'm used to it now. feel free to FM me for support!

I'm not sure about your DH but, the DSNY day off schedule ***** as well. It really took awhile for me to get useed to going out with other 'couple' frieds and to parties w/o him b/c he was working nights, Sat., Sun, etc. I still feel bad since I'm having a great time (or sleeping) and he's working...

A word to the wise, the night shift is physically demanding and he may have problems sleeping and might become very cranky. It is a hard shift to tolerate for long periods of time....

Things will improve with seniority!!!
