Does it annoy you when someone who you know is NOT a good person or does really dirty things, tells you they are relgious and go to church every Sunday?
I was annoyed this past weekend when this chick from my job, who drinks every night, makes out with girls, talks about all the guys she bangs and the drugs she does, tells me she goes to church every Sunday. I called her a hypocrite. She didnt really care. But it annoys me when people are like that even though Im not religious.

yea that would bother me.......
i also hated when my MIL freaked about us not getting married in church and acted like she was a holy roller - she said it wouldn't count b/c it wasn't going to be done under 'the eyes of god' meantime she couldn't remember the last time she went to church
in the end she loved our ceremony and told us it was even better than church
but yeah, i hate that....
obviously im not religious.....im the type that says hey whatever floats your boat - just dont impose your beliefs on me AND dont be a hypocrite like my MIL and your co-worker

Re: Spin-off: Religion
It is odd how very religious people often (not always) are judgmental or close minded. For example I am a practicing Roman Catholic BUT I do not agree with their view on gay people, abortion etc.
Certain aspects of organized religion bother me bc I feel that god loves us all and forgives us, so when religious people say gay people or women who have abortions are going to hell it really bothers me. I am religious but do not think any of these things.

Exactly my point. Its so annoying when people judge me when I say Im not religious. Its like, it doesnt matter if Im a good person, dont do drugs, dont intentionally hurt people, try to live my life nobly and then I have some hypocrite tell me Im going to hell for not being religious (Yup someone said that to me, and this person sells drugs and drinks to the point where he blacks out and acts abusive)
i agree, i hang out with 'good people' whether they are catholic, protestant, muslim, jewish, athiest, whatever man - i dont care.....i dont think religion and being a good person go hand in hand at all which i guess is most of the reason i am not religious.....

Yeah that's the stuff I am talking about I mean really it is just insane but SOME people really do feel that that simply attending church and believing in god makes them a good person

I agree. I believe what I believe. And I believe in certain aspects of the bible. Like being a good person in general etc. They lost me when I found out gay people go straight to hell, anyone who takes BC is a goner, etc. I also dont judge people for what they believe in. If you believe those things then fine. But dont impose what you believe on me and then say Im going to hell for not agreeing.

I used to get very angry when I used to see one of the doctors that I work for at mass. He is the nastiest man to his staff, and I've even witnessed patients leaving here in tears after seeing him b/c of his rudeness... You try to not be judgemental, but its so hard when you see a clear hypocrite like that. I guess thats Gods way of testing me/us to be more tolerant and non-judgemental.
Did you work for House. M.D.?

Re: Spin-off: Religion
yeah it annoys me that they preach they are so religious and then they are biggest sinners. But take me for example, I am Catholic, believe in God, dont believe that I need to go to church to praise him (I go on certain occasions). I don't do confession because I believe he is all forgiving and I can pray and confess my sins to him. Maybe those people just see it as God is forgiving like I do who knows.

Re: Spin-off: Religion
I have been fortunate enough to have had first hand experiences in hs, college and grad school with nuns, brothers, priests that taught me that many of these people DO NOT believe in these man made 'rules' as pertaining to sex before marriage and gay people. I had a brother as my guidance counselor in hs and he thought all that was BS The nun who was my advisor in grad school was also such a loving accepting woman. In college (I went to a fransican college) the brothers I knew were lovely, open minded and accepted. I think that it is because of these people that I am able to accept my religion and make my own version of it.....not have other peoples ideals of right or wrong shoved down my throat.

Yes, I call them hypocrites. I have encountered alot of religious people in my life who have been like that. That is part of the reason why I look at religion the way I do.

That totally pisses me off and I've seen it a lot. Just because someone goes to church doesn't mean they're a good person. I've learned though that when you go to church or hear of someone going to church that isn't a 'good' person that not everyone that goes to church is bad and some are genuinely there rather than there to make themselves feel better about there not so good life.

I agree, my dad is a really good example. My father is the most open minded and accepting person I know, he truly is a good person. He goes to mass every sunday, however he would never impose his beliefs on anyone.

I know not all church-goers are like that. Just the obvious hypocritical ones that annoy me
