Spin-off: Religion

Original post by Butterfly123

Does it annoy you when someone who you know is NOT a good person or does really dirty things, tells you they are relgious and go to church every Sunday?

I was annoyed this past weekend when this chick from my job, who drinks every night, makes out with girls, talks about all the guys she bangs and the drugs she does, tells me she goes to church every Sunday. I called her a hypocrite. She didnt really care. But it annoys me when people are like that even though Im not religious.

No but really those people kill me. I hate judgemental people as it is, then the 'religious ones' that love to tell people how they are going to hell bc they dont go to church take the cake.

When I was younger, I always wondered why people had to go to church to pray to Jesus when he supposedly was 'everywhere'.

It is odd how very religious people often (not always) are judgmental or close minded. For example I am a practicing Roman Catholic BUT I do not agree with their view on gay people, abortion etc.

Certain aspects of organized religion bother me bc I feel that god loves us all and forgives us, so when religious people say gay people or women who have abortions are going to hell it really bothers me. I am religious but do not think any of these things.

another 2 huge reasons i don't go to church anymore

I don't think it should stop you from going to church. You're not going to church to follow rules, you're going to church to worship. You don't have to agree with everything.

I do hate that people are like that. I have family members that think they are holy rollers yet they are people that talk sh!t about you, are mean and think they're better than anyone else!

Maybe those people just see it as God is forgiving like I do who knows.

See, thats fine with me. But dont preach about it and act holier than thou, ya know?

yeah I know what you mean; those are the ones that act like saints when they are not even at all.

Yeah, this bothers me too, but I never say anything to 'em about it. Besides, being 'religious' is different than being a 'Born Again Christian'. Lots of people think that they'll go to Heaven as long as they sit in church for a half hour every week, nevermind how they actually live their lives every other hour of every day. It's stupid, but whatever. What can you really do about it? I'm not the type to start preaching at people. Not unless they ASK me about my beliefs, then I'll tell 'em about it. But to just start condemning people - not my style

me too....

honestly, being in church is so weird for me now - and this is coming from a girl who went to catholic school and mass every sunday but it kind of reminds me a of a cult.....i dont know, it totally creeped me out the last time i went - b/c as a grown up i have totally different views - the sitting, standing, kneeling, everyone responding/praying at the same time out loud, the bell ringing & the smoke during the eucharist - i dont know, it just feel totally uncomfortable and the whole thing seemed cult like to me....not that i think its an actual cult or anything like that but its just totally not for me...i mean, i guess it would help if i was a 'believer' i believe in jesus the historical figure but to say he was the son of god - well im not so sure about that......i do believe there is something out there - but the whole god, jesus, heaven, hell thing - not really so sure if i believe in all that.....i def believe in spirits, souls, things like that - but im ehhh with religion - very on the fence about it - i think religion was invented to control people and keep them in line.... im a big skeptic

Its crazy because I find a lot of people I know who went to Catholic School are atheist/agnostic now. DH tells me all these horrible stories about how the nuns treated him. soon after his mom died, his catholic school kicked him out for acting up. I wouldnt expect this from a church. I would think they would try and help him get through his ordeal instead of giving up on him

oh you know whats funny - well its not funny actually - but DH and I always wonder what we are going to do when we have kids - like do we baptize them? we are not religious and won't be practicing religion at home so it doesn't make any sense to baptize them - but at the same time it feels wrong not to - but if we don't believe why would we do it? that is something we'll have to really think about when the time comes....

lol I have thought the same thing! Most of our friends/family have always baptized their babies. So it's sort of weird for me to think that we wouldn't do it, but we aren't religious so we wouldn't anyway, but it just seems like the 'thing' to do for some reason. lol

Re: Spin-off: Religion

i was raised catholic & i try to go to church every sunday. i don't consider myself better or 'good' because i go. its my own personal belief & i don't push it down peoples throat.

however, i got really upset when my mother's friend got on her case because she doesn't go to church. my mom doesn't drive & has to take care of my sick father who really can't be left alone. she made her feel so guilty she went to speak to a priest where she works (at a catholic school). he told her not to listen to her. as long as God is in your heart. she is always telling me she prays for me lol... she always goes out of her way for people. so shame on her friend who made her like crap just because she doesn't go to church

I am not religious but have some standards in my life that come from my religion I grew up following. My mom calls me a Buffet Catholic b/c I pick and choose from the religion how or what I want to follow. So I guess she is a Buffet Catholic!
