Spinoff from BHB... How did people dress.

Spinoff from BHB... How did people dress.

Someone asked a question on bhb about putting black tie on the invite. I mentioned I thought it was a little rude to put that on there. I THINK its like saying go rent a tux and give me a present or don't come. Someone said that you need to put it on there becuase people wore Kakis to the last wedding they went to. One person wore that to my wedding and SO WHAT!!! Most people wore suits.

So my question is how did people dress at your wedding!

Pretty neatly- semi-formally, which was appropriate. I don't recall seeing anyone really dressed down. All the men wore ties.

I just don't think it says anything about the bride and groom. It might say something about the guest (to some people)

one guy wore a khaki suit, but didn't use the jacket. I hated the bright pink, cotton polo shirt under it. Freaky.

Another girl (now married to my DH's cousin) wore hooker shoes. Just like the ones that Ron used in the 'bridal shoes' add to the right of this page. Several people commented about her shoes. If I posted a pic of her, you'd probably say 'is she for sale?' That's how she looked at my wedding.

edited to add: my invite said 'black tie optional'.

From now on, I will write 'formal attire' on all outside events that my In-Laws are invited to.

Thanks SUE Just what I said some people don't pay attention to that anyway!

No, I think they pay attention. It's just that my in-laws don't know how to read.

Or if they are like me they did it on purpose

To be honest with you, even if it said black tie I wouldn't have my husband rent a tux. He has a beautiful dark pin stripe suit that he could wear. I have a floor length BM gown that I could wear again if needed since it's a classic style and has a matching satin wrap.

IMO, If I'm going to a wedding, I'm spending enough money on a gift and how to get there - I don't need to spend another $300 on attire.

I agree 100%. Our wedding was 'black tie optional' Basically, the men who already owned a tux wore it.

When we were invited to a black tie wedding, DH refused to wear the tux because that guy wore a suit to our wedding (DH is such a girl, sometimes )

And, my in-laws are a whole different story all together. They are always dressed 'out of place' no matter where we go.

IMO...anyone who wore kakis to a wedding is TACKY (YES i used that word)

AND having 'black tie optional' wouldn't have changed ANYTHING

the majority of the men at my wedding wore suits!

We had black tie optional on our invite...a slight hint to dress a little bit more formal, but not a big deal if they didn't come in a tux..

Unless they own a tux, I would rather someone wear a nice suit that they already own vs. a rented tux...

I think the men dressed better than the women. A few women wore skirt/dressy top combos or pant suits, which, IMO is not dressy enough for an evening wedding.

A few of the men wore blazers & not suits. One of my dad's friends wore kacki's & no socks' to the church! My dad was kind of offended, but the freind did change, afterward, when he saw how other peopel were dressed. I don't knoq if he always intended too, or if his wife made him pack a suit just incase!

ETA- DH's uncle wanted to rent a tux, b/cit was less$$ than buying a suit, but we talked him outof it. Ididn't want him to look like he was in the bridal party.
Oen person came into our wedding by mistake, and I noticed it right away, b/c he was in a tux!

I didn't notice anything tacky or really out of place at my wedding, but there was a Charo look alike at my brother's wedding a few years back.

You really can't control what people wear, whatever you put on the invitation, so I don't spend time stressing out about it. They are the ones that should feel uncomfotable if they aren't dressed appropriately, not me.

We wrote 'Formal reception immediately following ceremony' so people were pretty much dressed appropriately. A few menwho owned tuxes wore them and all other men were in a suit. The woman were dressed formally, but a few girls were dressed a little more slutty than I would have liked to see.

People really kina dressed weird at my wedding. My one aunt wore a turtleneck sweater with pants, that really confused me. Then One of DH's friends that was in our wedding, his wife wore a black sort of mini skirt with an ugly blouse and friggin knee high black leather boots. I thought that was really tacky and even had a moment at the wedding where I made fun of her to DH. Then I had a lot of women, mostly all the ones closer to us in beautiful gowns and guys were basically all in suits!!

People at mine dressed appropriately. Except of course, for my 19 year old cousin who wore a gold suit and a black baseball hat BACKWARDS. DH thought it was terrible, I was just happy he came!

Honestly, what people wore didn't matter to me. I never gave it a second thought.

I think everyone was dressed appropriately. In all honesty, I was so worried about how I looked (my chin had broken out the night before) that I don't know if I would have noticed.

My wedding was black tie and I think everyone dressed appropriately... There were a couple of women in dress pants-- but they were certainly formal enough- women can get away with a lot of things- as long as they accessorize appropriately...

I think most of the men were in tuxes-- but, then again- I really was not paying attention to what people wore.. I think there may have been a couple in suits..

All in all- people dressed accordingly.
