Spinoff: Marilyn Monroe or Lindsey Lohan?

I put this title just to tie it in to the other post cause it sorta relates, but i am not bashing Lindsey Lohan in any way. what I am having a rant about, is the media's growing acceptance of all this body image/size craziness.

Its something that was bothering me today cause I went shopping last night and got annoyed, and it just tied into this topic I think. So thats all it is. No bashing, just venting.

To go off on a bit of a tangent here.....

Lindsey (who looked great as herself but not as one of the most famous sex symbols of all time) is a greate example of trying to fit into crazy standards. We all know the poor girl yo-yos with her weight and has more issues than even Brit. She looks health'IER' here but still a little on the thin side.

Like ok maybe she wanted to be Marilyn but don't ya think the photographers,/magazine people should have given her a sandwich first? its almost like they're saying the 'new' Marilyn is a size 0.

Maybe thats kooky and just me, but I am becoming mroe sensitive to this weight issue because I see how clothing stores are making size tags smaller and smaller. I went into Ann Taylor Loft the other day and was all kinds of pissed. I LOVE their clothes for work and they always have amazing sales. So I am a fan of them.

BUT...I fit into a 0 there. Yea you're probabyl sayign 'WHY are you complaining?!' WHY? Because I am NOT nor ever HAVE been, even when I weighed 105 pounds, a zero! My mom is a seamstress among ehr many other talents and when she sewed for me in the past when she did it more, i was always a size 6-8 pattern and then she altered it. Patterns are standard across the board-have been since the days of marilyn.

So I KNOW I am no size 0 because pattern standards are based on measurements. Mine very firmly put me into the size 6 category. I am a woman of a little above average height with VERY full hips and junk in my trunk and no boobs. I have always been and STILL AM in most stores, a size 4-6. So I have always wondered if little old ME is a size 0 in Ann's, what is a really thin, 100 pound girl to wear?

The answer is 00 and XXS......I kid you not.

HOW can you get below a 0?????? They are supposed to be comign out with a triple 000 one of their employees told me. For heaven's sake!

I know it may sound crazy but seriously..if you are naturally thin, nothing wrong with that. Some girls ARE really a 0. Thats fine. But I am NOT and I am insulted by the ininusation that my size 4-6 is considered so 'FAT' and taboo, that they need to mask it by putting a tag on it that saysI am a zero or 00. Seriously...enough is enough.

Marilyn Monroe was a size 12 and got the attention of our president. Sophia Loren had men falling over themselves to hand her plates of spaghetti lmao. Curves are ok!

I do have size envy- and my size 12 Loft jeans fit great- but I guess they are really an 18.

(I wear a size 10-12 in everything else- and my wedding dress is a 12- how the heck do I know what size I really am!)

What drives me even more nuts is places like old navy- you can try on the same style (ie- the sweetheart) jeans in 2 different colors- 1 fits fine the other can barely be buttoned.


I just ordered a bathing suit from VS and am hoping it looks somewhat decent by the time the cruise I'm going on rolls around in April.

You are a GORGEOUS girl and size 12 or not you're still fabulous.

I have tried not to look at sizes so much as looking at how clothes fit. Cause lets afce it...NONE OF US like how we look naked. We all see our 'flaws' . but in clothes I like to ahve a little extra weigth for some curve-I dont like when my butt looks like someone ****** the air out of it. And even if I looked liek Cindy Crawford, i'd still have nakie body issues so I would wather be healthy than super thin.

ETA: VS runs large. You're probably a small/medium in the botom cause I have WIDE hips (39 inches) in comparison to the rest of me and I fit a size small.

Actually- I'm pretty bottom heavy too. lol. I have broader shoulders, but small boobs and a small waist. My hips, thighs and butt are my 'problem' areas.

So now at 127, I am content and while I stive to be a little firmer in some places, I like the softness that I have... and DH prefers me this way.. So bring on the Big Macs!!!!!!

same here!!! when i was super skinny i liked how i looked....but now i look at pictures and i'm like U could see ALL the bones in my back for cryin' out loud...gross. besides DH, even friends & famiyl tell me 'u look SO much better this way!'...especially friend from school who only saw me in my skrawny days.... i'm happy with my body now - just want to majorly tone up for summer...(and for good hopefully lol )

ps: how much hotter would victoria beckham be with some meat on her bones?!?! her pencil legs freak me out!!

Not meaning to offend anyone-but Jenn I agree that pants should be the size they are...period. I think making sizes smaller b/c of the 'insecurity' that woman have with their size being 'too big' is ridiculous! I have seen women who are a 4 or 6 or 8 and they are gorgeous. It really is all i how you carry yourself and how you feel about your body-not the size on your pants....no one knows what size pants you wear except for you

Its my genes, I cant help it-just about every bone in my body can be seen. So please dont bash anorexic girls b/c someone like me and I am sure others...cant help the fact that we cant gain weight and want to be a 2 or a 4 and we arent anorexic. Sadly I eat whatever I want b/c I hope that it will help me gain weight. I HATE going to to the store to buy pants b/c i hate having to go into the junior dept to buy them. 27 I should no longer be there. As much as it upsets you that they are making the size smaller for the response some woman will have...how do you think we feel? Not any better about the sizing issue then you

I think we once discussed this Peg-it is not like you wear a sign with the size of your clothing. Who cares! I can be a 6 in some things, an 8 in some, a 10 in others. I don't personally aim for a size, but for fit. Just because it is 'my size' does not mean it will fit. I am 5'6'', I have a butt and I have a large chest. I actually buy everything, especially tops, larger! They shrink and I hate when they are too short.

I swear by J Crew for tanks, which I layer under everything. They are the best! And due to my chest, I always take a large, even an XL, because I would rather it look a little big rather than look like something my 11 year old sister would wear!

Size should not matter. Who cares! They are supposed to be guidelines. What matters is how you feel about yourself. We are all made differently.

Bottom line here-who cares what size you wear, how skinny, heavy, tall, short you are. Own your darn body! Who gives a rat's you know what!

Anorexia is a disease. Some people are just naturally incredibly tiny and that does not make them anorexic. Just as some girls are built bulkier and that does not make them overeaters.

Marilyn Monroe.. hands down.. I love her.. I just bought this book on her older photos when she had just started.. I am a size 10/12 and i think thats normal to me..
I think its a shame that Linds was picked.. she is a horrible actress and I feel like she doesn't take herself or anything seriously..and her mother 'Orange Oprah' is gross!!!! Someone with more talent should had been picked to fill that seat..

hey pegs i totally hear you on this...and i just wanted to clarify because i didn't mean to make ANYONE feel bad or down about ANYTHING.....
there is a huge HUGE difference between someone who is naturally thin, and someone who feels they NEED to be HOLLYWOOD THIN & think it looks good. My cousin who is also my best friend is also natually thin....eats literally whatever she wants, but is still a size one...and she HATES it. Imo, I think being naturally thin is a total blessing! This thread was more or less started about the sizing issue on clothes in general, and also the BEAUTIFUL women in hollywood who once had beautiful bodies, but now starve themselves or coke themselves out to be what they feel they HAVE to be. When someone is naturally thin, they are beautiful & just as much woman as a curvey girl....it's when they literally starve themselves(i.e. victoria beckham who publicly announced that she will only eat salad and nothing else for meals - and wont higher a nanny who's skinnier than she is) and look entirely unhealthy/un-natural. so hugs to you - because i think you're beautiful just the way you are and u should be proud that at 27 u can still shop in the jr. dept!! If it does bother u, know that this is EXACTLY what we were all talking about....they've marked down the tags so much that it sends u into other sizes & messes with our heads. In the longrun, regardless of the sizing issue, what i'm saying is you can visually tell that u are naturally thin....and it's a beautiful thing....u dont look like u've starved urself to bones & look like u're going to keel over like half of the celebrities do... u're still ALL woman!

I'll tell you this. She was basicly nude in her pictures, so who knows what size she is. She was comfortable in her own skin to pose basicly nude.I'm 6' tall, and weigh in at 154 lbs. If your comfortable in your own skin, and whatever size you wear, than I don't see this as such a big issue. Half the time clothes are made in different countries, so the material fits differently. If it were up to me, I'd only buy things made in the US of A. Cause it is here we know that the average size of a woman is a size 12!!!!!!!

after years of having self concious issues from eating disorders to just plain obsession, I for one AM finally comfortable in my own skin...for the first time in my life i'm confident about my body...infact i dont even keep a scale in the house because as long as i feel good, thats all that matters... i was more venting at the fact that its frustrating that the media is just making things worse & worse - and it's clearly the reason why so many girls DO have issues with their weight & their body image....'cause lets face it - the majority of women ARE self concious and dont see themselves to be as beautiful as they are. My SIL who is breathtakingly gorgous with curves in all the right places gets complemented and her response is 'thanks....but i wanna look like keira knightly'...drives me freakin' NUTS!!!!! so that's all i was really saying...i love my body - there are a lot of women who dont - and honestly the media is the subconcious root cause of it all.
