Spinoff to the Couples First Dance Post

Unaperala's post of the couple doing their first dance was really funny but it reminded me of something I wanted to ask your girls about.

In the past year or two there have been a few of these dances posted on youtube, etc. Don't get me wrong, some of them are fantastic and I enjoy watching them, but I could not imagine DH and I doing anyone of these. But, they have become so popular that some people asked us before the wedding if we were doing a 'routine' or 'just a dance'. We had 'just a dance'.

Did anyone here do an actual routine? Do you expect these now? What do you guys think of them?

P.S.: I am not talking about situation where couples take dancing lessons for the purpose of a nice well done first dance...i am talking about actually choreographed routines. Thanks.

naah - we didn't do a funny routine...I just wanted to enjoy being held in my hubby's arms & dancing with him as his 'wife' but hey to each is own...for us, we were crazy enough for our entrance & the rest of the night to make up for it!

We did just a dance.

I think seeing the choreographed dances are nice but when DH and I danced our 1st dance we were looking in each others eyes and kissed a few times and all I kept thinking about was what a wonderful day we had had so far and how fun the rest of the night was going to be, how happy I was that I married this man. If we had done the choreographed dance all I would have been thinking of were the steps. Not my idea of romantic. JMO

We did just a dance.

I think seeing the choreographed dances are nice but when DH and I danced our 1st dance we were looking in each others eyes and kissed a few times and all I kept thinking about was what a wonderful day we had had so far and how fun the rest of the night was going to be, how happy I was that I married this man. If we had done the choreographed dance all I would have been thinking of were the steps. Not my idea of romantic. JMO

yea - like i said - to each is own...and some people like to do something different...but for me, i just wanted to enjoy the moment & soak everything in

Our first dance was choreographed by our dance lesson teacher but it wasn't to a song like Baby Got Back. It was to our first dance song. You could tell it was not a normal dance.

I liked the idea of doing something different. That's why I asked our instructor to help us with the dance.

omg, i hate those videos of couples breaking into stupid dance routine. like the breakdancing couple or the baby got back couple.
so cheesy.
you have the rest of the wedding to dance like a fool, why take the first dance as husband and wife and turn it into a cheese fest.

we had a nice husband and wife dance.

totally!

i mean to each their own--but it just seems a little tacky to make your first dance something like that.....save that for a spotlight dance later to really kick start the party! i guess if that's the kind of couple they are---where friends and family expect something like that---then that's fine. but to me, the first dance is something that should be romantic and special for the & . Our first dance was probably one of the greatest moments of the entire day--for 2 1/2 min. i felt like it was just DH and i and no one else---i loved it!

We took lessons, and had it choreographed .... but it was a fox trot, not something you'd see the 'fly girls' do

same here -- we took a few dance lessons and had our first saw 'At Last' choreogaphed, and danced a fox trot but kept it simple -- we had the best time!! we'd love to take more lessons -- it was a fun night out together

Same here!!

DH & I did a fun first dance...we are not serious at all...so we took lessons and had them help us choreograph something that would work...we used a few minutes from 3 different songs that Dh mixed in Garage Band...

1.) My Wish by Rascal Flatts...started out with the old side to side lame we don't know how to dance moves..haha (to confuse those who knew we took lessons)...then DH grabbed my butt...i pretended to be mad & walked away...his Aunt thought it was real...then the music changed to..

2) Something Stupid from the Moulin Rouge soundtrack..we did a waltz i think to that...then parted again...i walked off & grabbed a beer quick so that when song

#3) Honky Tonk Bodonkadonk by Trace Atkins started I was ready to 'put my beer down'..i walked up behind DH, slapped him on his a$$ and we did a cha-cha...oh & DH grabbed a cowboy hat & jacket to put on while I got the beer...and we ended with a dip...the the song faded & a dance song began...our guests LOVED the first dance..people were hooting & hollering..it's pretty funny to watch the video...and you can see on our faces we had fun!

Same here...we took a private ballroom dance class specifically for our first dance song...that because we don't know how to dance it. Beside, we don't want to just to sway for the whole song.

we just danced, but we probably should've gotten it semi-choreographed. neither one of us like being the center of attention and i was actually really uncomfortable with everyone staring at us. we didn't quite dance, so much as sway, because i was kinda frozen!

I love it when people do things like this - I think it's a lot of fun As for us personally, though, it wasn't for us - I was lucky to get my DH dancing at all, so we did the traditional thing...with the exception of my bustle coming undone, my slipping on my dress a few times & us never really getting to do our choreographed 'dance lesson dance'

Uh we did it to thriller...

SO JUST KIDDING.. we had a normal dance to our first song. We were supposed to have one that was choreographed but DH chickened out. We took dance lessons and it was to a fast waltz. He gave up with the Twinkle step, wasn't his style.

I love seeing those videos of funny or surprise first dances - would DH and I do something like that, no. We had a regular first dance and we did not have anyone join in for it - we wanted those 3 minutes to be time to be in each other's arms, appreciating the words of the song and what they meant to us. We sang to each other during different parts of the song and it was really beautiful for us. We were on the dancefloor the entire rest of the night, so we were able to dance with everyone and have fun. I also dedicated a song to DH and to all the couples so instead of people joining during our first dance, we had all the couples up dancing together etc later on.

But I still find those youtube videos funny!
