SPINOFF to using married name...'former' single-moms

is anyone who 'used to be' a single-mom, having issues with changing your name?

my son has his (dead-beat) father's last name.
i never changed my name when i got married the first time... (physical abuse right away, so i never got around to it).

i feel that i would be 'leaving my son out' if i change my name.

is anyone else worried about this??

Can't you change your son's name as well? I don't know how that works, your new DH might have to adopt him or something.

My DH's ex-wife recently got re-married as well and took her new husband's name. I'm not sure how she feels about it since their daughter still has DH's last name, but he's still very much in the picture so it's a different situation.

I could understand you feeling like he's being 'left out'. Maybe you could hyphenate your last names so you satisfy taking your new husband's and including your son at the same time.
