St Lucia

For those of you that went to St Lucia - We are flying into UVF - the airport on the Southern end of St Lucia - we weren't sure if we should take the shuttle to the Sandals Grande or if we should take the heliocopter ($), I've heard that the roads are a little rough and the ride is a little long - Any opinions?

Re: St Lucia

Yes we are - I can't wait! I heard the ride was a little rough The heliocopter ride is $100 per person one way so it adds up to $400 round trip for both of us - do you think its worth it?

I have taken that bus ride from the UVF airport to Sandals, it is rough!! Its long and very bumpy. Save yourself the horrible trip and pay the extra $$.

Re: St Lucia

I would deal with it for the extra money...it is bumpy but it is dealable (hmmm is that a word?) If you normally don't get car sick then you will be fine.

Re: St Lucia

The trip in my opinion wasn't that bad-unless you have a crazy driver. That's a bit too much money for me. The Grande was wonderful and I wish I was there right now!

Re: St Lucia

We had our own taxi pick us up from the airport so it wasn't bad... I've heard the bus that might pick you up if there is a lot of people is kind of bad. You can try it going there and then if you hate it take the helicopter back.... at least that way it will be half the money.

ETS: The road is paved, its just hilly and curvy.

Re: St Lucia

Here is my review from my Honeymoon 5-03.

Our honeymoon was Sandals Regency St. Lucia Golf Resort & Spa (formerly just Golf & Spa Resort). All-inclusive it the way to go. This place was so beautiful and the food was amazing. There are 5 restaurants just within the Golf & Spa. Our favorites were La Toc, Kimonos and for lunch Arizona both the food and service were great. You are also able to hop over and visit or eat at the Halcyon (30 minutes away) or Grande (45 minutes away) Sandals. This place truly caters to honeymooners, everyone was so happy and friendly. There was so much love going around.

We stayed in The Bluffs, which was a mini Ocean view penthouse suite that had 24-hour room service and concierge service. The room was so nice, with a sitting area and gorgeous 4-poster bed and a Jacuzzi tub. The view was beautiful and every morning we would sit outside on the balcony and have tea and coffee overlooking the ocean. In the evenings the sunsets were to die for. We went on several excursions that can be booked through the concierge service. All were expertly run and included lunch. FM me if you want more information.

A couple of things to note, we flew and took the Continental Sandals Honeymoon express which goes direct non-stop flight to St. Lucia. The flight leaves out of Newark at 11:00 on Sundays, I was a little hesitant at first going from L.I. to Newark, but the drive was no problem and the flight was awesome. The had a Sandals representative on board and we got a meal (now a days you only get peanuts), free headset for the movie, played games and they had give a ways for little contests. Also, just in case you don’t know, the drive from the airport to the resort is about 1 hour. All the buses have air condition, it is hilly and you truly see the beauty and poverty of the island. For those of you who can stomach the drive or want to get there faster, they offer a helicopter ride, which is $100 per person and gets you there in about 20 minutes. Make sure you have a strong stomach, because some couples told us it’s a bit nauseating. Also, make sure you pack some stuff in your carry on because your luggage won’t arrive until 9-9:30 pm and most couples were stranded without luggage.

I would highly recommend any Sandals, you truly get the best value for your money.

Re: St Lucia

Thanks for all the info ladies! I think we may take the heliocopter when we arrive and then take the bus or taxi when we are leaving. It gives us a chance to see the island from above and from the ground and without spending as much money.
MayDay16 - which excursions did you take - we definately want to take a few!
I can't wait!!!

What was your favorite restaurant??

Re: St Lucia

Absolutely the best restaurant at the Golf resort and spa was the French restaurant... we ate there twice! The Japanese place (a benihanas kind of place) was really good too.

Re: St Lucia

I agree with Dandj La Toc (French) and Kimonos (Japanese) Restaurants were the best. Plus the Arizona Grill for lunch was soo good. They had the best grilled chicken!

We went on the Horseback Riding BBQ excursion, which was soo beautiful. We rode the horses and then had a great lunch right on the beach.

We went on the Catamaran Sailing Cruise where they take you to the Piton Mountains the Snorkeling excursion and the Jamming Booze Cruise. Watch out for the Jamming Juice! All activities include food and drink. They had plenty more, but we took advantage of the Spa and had massages!

Re: St Lucia

We took the drive both ways and i am glad we did, you really get to see the island and the drivers were sooo nice. Our Fave Restaurant was The Pier at the Halcyon, we stayed at the Grande. The best restaurant at the Grande was Kimono's. DH is still mad that we didn't go there twice. Make sure to make reservations for either one of those though.

Edited to say...we did the horseback ride also, don't do the lunch one you just sit around for two hours. and we did the rainforest bike ride, that was awesome. It is not really easy more along the challenging line but well worth it. If you do the bike ride, say Hello to Prince for us!!
