Stay at home mom?

Stay at home mom?

DH and I were discussing this. I have always wanted to stay at home while having the babies!!! DH wants me to stay at home as well. Are any of you considering this? Do any of you have experience with this situation? Did you stay at home and decided you wanted to go back to work? I tried this question on LIF but........

my mom was a SAHM until i was bout 11 or so. it was nice having her there when we got home from school and stuff.

but i don't think it would be for me. besides the fact that there is no way we could afford to do it---i just don't see myself as the SAHM mom 'type'. i like being out of the house and working. but i think its up to the person as to whether they can do the SAHM life. some are better at it than others.

i am 11 weeks pregnant now.. DH and I discussed this also.. and we both agreed that it makes more sense for me to be a SAHM.. with daycare being so expensive, we are better off.

i always have worked since right out of high school, so its going to be tough for me.. i can see myself getting bored fast! but i plan to work on my scrapbooking, and of course with the cleaning and taking care of the baby.. it should be fun!!

I would want to be a SAHM at least until my child starts kindergarten. Im not going to lie, I was home for the past 3 months and I could not WAIT to get back to work

we just had this conversation recently. i told him i never saw myself as being a SAHM, and he was a little taken aback. we couldn't afford it either, but even if we could, i think he'd be better suited to be the stay at home parent. he would love to do that, and i have no problem with that. but i say that now, who knows how i'd feel once it actually came to that.

in the beginning I'm sure I'd love it, but I don't think I could be a SAHM for a long time (like til my kids go to school).....and plus I don't think we afford it w/ our mortgage & other bills, so we talked about it, and I think I'll be working P/T when the time comes.

i would rather my DH be a SAHD. I'm not a fan of cooking or cleaning. Plus I actually like my job.

I'd like to stay home for at least the first year.

My mom was a SAHM and didn't go back to work unitl I was in HS. She did do some volunteer work
(taught preschool at my elementary school) and was always 'class mother' or field trip chaperone.

She works in merchandising now, which she loves cause she makes her own hours, but when we got older and weren't so needy- I saw the change in her, she NEEDED to find something to do.

I think its very important, even if you plan on staying home long term, to maintain some marketable skills, just in case

Luckily, I will have the flexibility to at least work from home a few days a week, even if I can't stay home full time.

I 100% agree. I told DH if I was to stay at home..I would like to slowly but surely finish up my degree in Education...and when my kids are in school I can teach. This way im not so unmarketable when it comes to the work force.

I will be......My mom worked and I feel like I missed out on a lot. Dh and I want a bunch of kids and with daycare being so expensive it makes more sense for em to work from home and be a stay at home mom! I'm excited, I know its hard work and there will be days when I'm bored out of my mind but it will be worth it in the end!

It is definitely not for me. If we have kids, I think we will consider DH being a SAHD, but not sure yet.

I would love to be a SAHM but unfortunately I don't think we'll ever be able to afford living on just one income so I'll prob still have to work. If the opportunity arose where I was bringing home enough $$ for the both of us, then I know Kevin would be a SAHD, he did it for his DD.

I am already a stay at home wife. DH and I discussed me being a SAHM before we got engaged and we def wanted that. AFter we got engaged the mortgage co I worked for went out of business and DH said not to bother finding a job unless I wanted to. With the wedding plans I did not.Anyway, I love it..... We bought a house and it always keeps me so busy and when we do have children, which we are trying for now, I will already be here. I know it may not work for some but it works for us. DH loves having me be at home...

Re: Stay at home mom?

I stayed home with my son and it was the BEST DECISION... However, I was a single mother and had moved back in with my parents at the time... So I was ABLE to...

I felt it was so important for me to be home with him and I could only HOPE to be able to stay home with any other babies I have.

Though I don't think it's possible =(
