Stay at home mom?

Original post by curiousgeorge

DH and I were discussing this. I have always wanted to stay at home while having the babies!!! DH wants me to stay at home as well. Are any of you considering this? Do any of you have experience with this situation? Did you stay at home and decided you wanted to go back to work? I tried this question on LIF but........

both Dh and I had sahm, and we dont want it any other way. As long as we have kids after his pay raise in 2 years I will be a sahm. I was a nanny for a family for years, and I ejoyed it so much, So i know I wont get sick of it. let me tell you though, its the hardest job in the world!! but its very rewarding.

I would love be a SAHM, I just don't think we could afford it. My mother was a SAHM for many years (my parents had 7 kids) when the youngest went into school, my mom went back to school for a second BA and eventually got her PhD. She said she was very happy to finally be doing something for herself.

She loved being home with us, but also missed being an adult, having adult conversatios and having people respect her thoughts/actions.

we cannot afford to only have 1 income... so hopefully our parents will be able to watch the kids for free when the time comes... that really is our only option.

Re: Stay at home mom?

I can't imagine not being a stay at home till my kids start 1st grade. For me, I think working and having little kids would be too much. I also grew up with my mom being home, so I guess its just what I am used to.

woops- I just saw that this was an old post. My bad!

My mom was a stay at home mom and It's my dream to be one. If you ask me my goals in life it's to be a mother and stay at home with the kids, and when they go to school i want to be able to go on field trips with them like my mom did for me. I work from home now so I don't know how in LI we could have me not work and this dissapoints me. But since I work from home I am able to kind of do both...so it's nice...

My mother was a SAHM. It was wonderful having her with us. I would love to be for the simple fact that I could not see leaving my small baby in day care. It would break my heart. However, I LOVE my job and what I do. I like to go to work and have an outlet there. I think I would be bored very easily.

Well my answer is more complicated. I would like to continue my own business & continue to run some of the operations out of the house. I would like it to produce enough money that I can be a stay at home mom with a stay at home business. But with everyone experience such a crunch, I wonder how that will go.

i will give anything to be a stay at home Mom. I love my job, but there is nothing more important that your baby. i want to be there for their first word, first step, first tooth, etc. i would love to be a SAHM until the kids are school age and then i would go back to work. sadly, though the reality is that i don't think we can afford for me to stay home and we live frugally as it is. but with a mortgage to pay and the economy the way it is...we shall see.

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to stay home for a year (or more, but that is completely unrealistic for us), but I'm not sure if that'll be possible :( We are both teachers, so one salary won't really cut it. Hopefully we will be able to time it so the summer extends my leave, and then DH can take paternity (60 work days) after I go back...if only I could win the lotto!

We are trying to save up now, and are thinking about staying in our condo instead of buying a house...it's a trade-off/

i would love to be SAHM but I don't think I can just be home.. if I could find something that where I could work from home (still would drive me nuts) I think it might be more bearable.. and financially, I think it might make more sense for me to keep working.. babies are
