I went to Macys and Lord and Taylor and a few other stores in the area and tried on every freaking dress that was even a remote possiblity.

Nada! The few dresses that i actually liked did not fit right!

So not only do i not have anything to wear, I feel like a fat cow!

Im going to go to Ann Taylor today to see if they at least have a cute skirt that I will like.

But ive given up.

Stef...is there any way you can get to Roosevelt Field Mall? It sounds like you and I have a very similar body type, and I have just as hard a time finding dresses. There is one store I go to, that for the last 4 trips I made was NO FAIL. The sales women are great and helped me pick out stuff that really flattered. It's called Georgiou. They sell dresses/skirts/tops/suits....nothing too crazy expensive either!

Roosevelt feild is pretty impossible for me to get to. Maybe I can ask Luke if he will take me but we have a bunch of things to do this weekend so im not sure if it will work. Maybe.

Is there a Georgiu anywhere else?

As a seperate rant, Im not feeling much in the shoping mood. Ive been a size 14 my entire adult life - fluxuating a bit between a 14 being a little too big on me or right on. Now I have crossed that line into it being too tight and I feel aweful. And the worst part is that the dresses im trying on all fit beautiful until i get up to my boobs and then dont zip up. So while im sure i will get back to my normal size eventually, i dont feel very good not being able to fit into the largest size that these things come in! GRRRR

Stef... I feel you. I've been a size 14 forever now. I went down to a 12 right before the wedding (woo hoo) and I'm right back where I was now! The worst part of dress shopping for me has ALWAYS been my chest.

Have you tried on any dresses made by Rampage yet? I just got one at Macys for a wedding...low v-neck, fluttery short sleeves, asymetrical hem...it's really flattering. Not too busty or anything! I know Macys s ucks, but I think Rampage is carried everywhere..and they have a website.

I went to Ann Taylor and nada. Well, they had tons I loved but nothing for this occasion. I might venture to another mall this weekend if I can convince Luke but its unlikely that i will find anything at this rate.

their is a store called Ashley Stewart near my office and it has clothes starting in size 14.

Its on 34th street between 5th and broadway.

I peaked and they have really nice stuff. Beautiful skirts and tops.

I dont know if you work in that area, but its worth a look

Thanks but the plus size clothing is on a totally different scale than misses. I have no clue why but those stores size 14 are one or two sizes larger than a misses 14.

I totally understand. I have a very hard time finding dresses because I have a very broad back and usually have to pick the biggest size and have it tailored.

And I know about being a size 14... I was that size until a few years ago and I've been a size 12 ever since. I think I was a size 10 for one whole day...

Have you tried banana republic? I know they just released their winter line & they have some very nice stuff... I haven't tried it on though so I don't know what the fit is like. But they have this very nice off-white dress/jacket thing that I really liked.

Also....

Tristan America (I think there is one on 6th Ave)- I haven't been in there in SOOOOO long.

I feel your pain- this is why I don't have new clothes... I can't wear any of the low waisted pants either- they don't accommodate my a55!!!

Thanks. I did try on that white dress from Banana. It fits fine but the bulky fabric and high neck do nothing for me. But I sooo want that matching coat!!

I havent been to tristan but it was suggested before. Do they make clothing in normal sizes? Im getting really annoyed when i go into a store that sells a XL that is really a medium (forever 21, charlotte russe, etc..)

Stef, I just want to say that I feel your pain. I have the same issues, though I am taller than you. I just got fitted for my best friend's bridesmaid dress (red satin strapless nightmare) that makes me look like a house. I am right there with ya.

Love the 12-14 girls... glad I am not alone.

PS, I am sure you will find something gorgeous, and Luke would probably find you to be a hottie if you wore a potato sack.

Stef, I think Tristan's sizing is on par with Ann Taylor, at least in my size. And they don't cater to petites, so you shouldn't have length issues. I stopped by there yesterday, but didn't look for a white dress (sorry). They had nice things, but very few on sale...
