There's some drama going on LIF right now... So here's the question: Would you be mad if a couple got engaged at your wedding? I responded yes I would be!!!! I think it's inappropriate and rude!! Thoughts?

I dont know if it would. Thinking about it, it is kinda rude because the only people who should be getting congratulations on that day are the bride and groom. If someone gets engaged, its going to take the attention off the wedding. I would find it a little awkward thats for sure.

I think it is up to the couple. I am sure there are some couples that would really be honored if their friends got engaged at their wedding. I think that if a couple is planning on getting engaged at a wedding they should at least ask the couple getting married for permission first.

i was in a similar situation..my sister/MOH found out she was preggers with her 3rd child a week before the wedding and she didnt want to tell anyone cause she didnt want to 'steal my thunder'
but after she did her toast at the wedding i took the microphone and said that she was preggers so everyone knew
it was awesome
she got pissed cause she was taken off guard..but after 5 minutes was relieved cause now it saved her a lot of phone calls

DH told me that he was thinking of proposing to me at my cousin's wedding Instead, he proposed 3 days before, on my bday, and at my cousin's wedding, people saw the ring and congratulated me, but i in no way went out of my way to announce our engagement. when he told me what he was going to do, i told him it was a very good thing he didn't - you should never upstage the bride! however, if it happened at my wedding, if it was anyone other than one of my closest closest friends, then yeah, i'd be pissed!

Sounds like someone ALWAYS has to be the center of attention. WHo would want to get engaged on another persons day.

I would be upset too....my wedding is the only day where all attention is on me. I think with all the stress of planning my wedding, I deserve to have everyone's attention.
IMO, Its thoughtless and passive aggressive to propose on your actual wedding day.

to be totally honest, i don't think i would...that day goes by SO fast and you're on cloud 9 the entire time...who cares about something like that? more than half of the things that i said would ruin my day ended up happening and i still had the time of my life...if someone had gotten engaged, i'd probably be happy for them and continue to enjoy my wedding!

If it were like my sister or one of my cousins then no way! I would be really excited for them. If it was someone i didnt know or wasnt too fond of then yea id be mad lol.

I agreed with another poster saying if I knew beforehand and it was a quiet deal and not much fanfare was made out of it, I probably wouldn't mind if it was a close friend or relative. Like in our newsletters I mentioned my MOH and best friend was getting married 2 weeks after us and told everyone to congratulate them. And people did and that was fine with me even though SHE felt she was stealing my thunder. I didn't care cause she was my friend and I was happy for her.
BUT at the same time on the other side of the fence, WHAT WOMAN wants her engagement to be kept quiet? like seriously, you want everyone to know and the whole world to be happy for you, and frankly you CANNOT do that at someone else's wedding without earning yourself the QUEEN and KING of TACKY crowns.
It would take thunder away from the bride and groom and yet keeping it silent steals the newly engaged couple's thunder so I ahve to say PASS. Don't do it at someone else's wedding because both couples will be gippped a bit.
Guys, if you are going to propose to your girl, make it special, not something that rides on the coat tails of someone else.

i think its very rude.. and all the attention should be on the bride and groom.. it think its tacky ... there are plenty of other days to propose.. why do it at a wedding?? also the bride and groom plan a wedding for so long... they deserve to have full attention.

I don't think I'd be mad at all honestly, Id congratulate them, be happy for them, and move on my merry way.. I was on such a high that day that nothing couldve bothered me... Point is, no matter who's doing what that day, I still said my vows & got married so thats THAT!
Definitely is WEIRD though... if MY DH proposed at someone's wedding I wouldve been like Just freakin RANDOM!!! I wouldve probably been pissed that he wasn't even paying for my dinner the night of our engagement
