When you do a smokey eye..what else are you supposed to use besides an eye pencil? Help!?!? Do you use dark shadow? I'm totally clueless, and I'm trying new looks for makeup!!!

Yes..definitely eyeshadow..like a smokey grey..you can prob. do a search online on how to create a smokey look

Just a thought but MAC sometimes gives makeup lessons at their counters I am so bad with eye makeup and can't do a smokey eye (bec I look like I just have a black one when I do ), I am going to make an appt there very soon!!
You can do a smoky eye with lavenders and purples too. I saw it on the CBS early show one day. I do it sometimes with these colors because greys do not look good on my eyes. I have no idea HOW to do it, but I think that's what it winds up looking like. I just line my upper eyelash area with brown liner and then I add purple shadow, and kind of sweep it up and smudge it together if that makes sense .. and then I use light browns/purpleish shadow on the eyelid and blend it together... Wow..a whole 10mins on eyes..I dont think I would have patience lol Her eyes did come out gorgeous tho..but I thought mine will come out like that..maybe with a lot of pratice.

Kristin I got the Bare Essentials smoky eye kit-it comes with directions, 2 colors-a shimmery taupe color and a grey shadow, and a brush. For my wedding, my sister used the idea of this with purples. You could probably also go into MAC or Sephora or Bare Essentials stores to see if they can show you a smoky eye. Here's a pic:
if you use a lighter and a darker color, put the lighter color over your lid first. I do this pink and black and put the pink on the lid then i use this black shadow. You can do eyeliner or use the eyeshadow as the liner, ive been doing it that way, i take the black and go just halfway through the lid and use a very thin brush for the bottom part of my lid to use instead of eyeliner, then with a different brush i go to the browbone right on top of your lid and again just half way through so like the middle part and then going out i use the brush to line it and do kind of like a V to go down to bottom of eye and then in a circle motion just color it in black in the middle of the eye.
If you go on youtube they have a lot of smokey eye tutorials. I watched them and actually learned how to do it that way, i used to be so bad at it.
