Re: Suffolk Girls

Let me tell you why. I'll elaborate.

First of all, I live less than a mile from the beach. We have three large parks all w/in a 2 mile radius - Heckscher park, The Bayard Cutting Arboretum, and Connetquot state park.

East Islip is the last exit on the Southern state, so its always easy to give people directions to my house, and its easily accessible from both the Southern state, Northern state, and expressway. Its not super far into Suffolk so that getting into Nassau county & the city isn't an issue, but you're also not super far from the outlets, etc.

We have three LIRR stations near by. Great River, Central Islip, and Babylon is only 10 min away.

I live here, obviously.

The school district is one of the best on the island, and we have a huge, newly renovated library. We also have 3 major doctor's offices, a radiology group, and several Ob's. There are 2 hospitals w/in a 10 mile radius.

There's a Marshalls right in town, and 3 malls all within a 20 minute drive - the closest is only about 5 min away. I live there sometimes. And we have a 24 hour CVS, which I enjoy.

There are no fast food restaurants in town or a diner, so you tend not to have teenagers hanging around the streets at all hours of the night in the summer.

I'm sure there's more. GO EAST ISLIP YAY.

We're surrounded by Islip - which is pretty similar to East Islip - on the west. On the east are Oakdale & Bohemia. These are also very similar. North of us is Central Islip which, I'll be honest, isn't the greatest, but we have a buffer town of Islip Terrace that separates East Islip from Central Islip. (sorry to any CI people)

Depends on how much $$ you have to plunk down. Some towns in Suffolk are very expensive.

ETA: I'm a Sachem district girl personally. Holbrook, Holtsville, Farmingville, Lake Ronkonkoma. All nice towns.

Re: Suffolk Girls

DH and I live in East Northport....we love it. It's Commack school district which is a great school district...it's near the beach, Centerport, Northport Village and centrally located...and near train station, major highways and lots of stores and restaurants !!!!!!!!!!

One of my friends lives in East Islip and I agree w/Mima that it's a great place to live...she is a teacher and her son went there (K-12) and was very happy with it . She never wants to move (she's been there for over 20 years)!!!

Re: Suffolk Girls

When we were looking at houses we were looking, close to the LIE. Dh has a 35 minute commute to work in Nassau county, but we decided to live in SUffolk after looking alot in Nassau...we like Suffolk alot better!! We were looking North and South but that added another 20 min onto poor dh commute!!!

We looked in

Ronkonkoma
Lake Grove
Nesconset
Holbrook
Holtsville
Hauppauge

It took us 2 years to find us the perfect house! We are half in contract...possibly in full contract...but we wont hear back until MOnday!!

Pretty much where we will plan to look. Basically Sachem or Connetquot schools. Great school, good central location. Perfect for both of us. We commute in opposite directions.

Re: Suffolk Girls

Any honest thoughts on Smithtown? FM me if you'd like. TIA!

Re: Suffolk Girls

Smithtown's pretty nice. DH is from St James, which is almost the same thing. He went to Smithtown HS.

I get angry when I drive over in Smithtown though b/c I feel like all of the roads are twisty and curvy, and it takes forever to get anywhere.

Re: Suffolk Girls

Smithtown schools are supposed to be really good. Hauppauge and Kings Park are also close by and good as well if you are looking for that area.
