admitedly this may be a silly post.... but im a lil worried now. to preface this: im obsessed with cream of wheat!!! i eat it every single morning for breakfast, never get tired of it, and always use 2 splendas. i can't tell you how long ive done this for. clearly when i like something alot i get in an obsessive routine. for some reason, i prefer the taste of splenda over sugar big time. i never read any study that said anything that would scare me about it or anything. now my mom was listening to the 'skinny ***** in the kitch' book on cd and told me something about how it says there was this whole thing that was kept on the DL when splenda was trying to get FDA approved and she thinks i shouldnt use it any more.
... i just read on truthaboutsplenda.com that it has chlorine in it and up to 27% of splenda is absorbed by the body. yum i ingest chlorine every day. anyone know more about this? am i the only one obsessed with a sugar substitute? lol
Theyre not sure what the long term consumption can do bc there hasn't been any long term studies, but im thinkin maybe i shouldn't be the lab rat. not to mention, im only analyzing splenda when prob most of what i eat is processed and toxic. the more and more i hear, it sounds like going fully organic and/or fully vegetarian is the best option. just doesn't seem practical tho. anyone else doing either?

Re: sugar substitutes
The BEST sugar sub I've ever used is Agave Nectar. Its made out of a cactus and is similar to honey. You can get it at any health food store and most Stop and Shops carry it.

You are not suppose to consume any sugar substitures when you are pregnant because of risk of fetal birth defects. With this being said, why would you want to ever consume it.
What this is true?!?! OMG where did you learn this?

Re: sugar substitutes
I'm also hooked on splenda--my mom says it's my drug. I would like to stop using it but also addicted to it in my breakfast. I add it to plain yogurt, oatmeal and hot oatbran. I've tried stevia and didn't love it. I should probably use that agave stuff or honey but I'm a WWer, so it pains me to count points for them. I do plan to cut it out when pregnant, so I think I'll start weaning myself off it....maybe start with not having it in my yogurt or coffee--and go from there. Unfortunately, I also use sf maple syrup and drink diet sodas--so it'll big a big overhaul.

Yes, this is true and it is in many medical journals and most OBs and midwives will tell you the same thing. Sugar substitutes are a big no no in pregnancy as well as diet sodas, because of the substitutes.

Thought I'd chime in on this one. I'm diabetic. I'm also menopausal, and in the last yr. have had issues stemming from low estrogen. To be technical, the bladder walls thin out as a result of low estrogen, and eating/drinking bladder irritant 'foods', can cause burning worst than a UTI !!!!! Now here's the clincher!!!!! Artificial sweetners are on the list!!!!!!!! As a diabetic, this is not a good thing!! I have tried Stevia, and didn't care for the taste. Mary MOB

I have only heard bad things about sugar substitutes!
me too but I don't care I know that sounds awful but i do everything in moderation . I figure at this point I can't go around being scared of everything - everything is bad for you if you read into it all. We are all going to die of something I don't overdo anything - so if your scared just cut back a bit
I'm the same way! I can't be scared of everything because every day they come out with some new announcement on what is bad for you.... so everything in moderation
