Tat Question-- Would you

Original post by RadiantBride

Would you tattoo your DH's name on you? Have you done it (post pics if you have) .

Why or why not?

No names unless its my parents or brother or child.

I don't know, I am not sure I would flat out put Joe on my body but I might do it in some kind of other way or meaning. I have asked him if we should get matching ones and he says maybe for the baby when he/she is born.

I think we had a topic on this once before, because I definitely remember answering. Maybe it was on the '08 boards? I dunno, it doesn't matter. Either way, I'm not for it at all. I just feel like if I put his name on me, it's as tho I'm being branded, like I 'belong' to him. When I married him, I became his & he became mine, but it's not 'ownership' like cattle. And that's how i think I would feel if i put his name on me. I don't have a problem, however, with putting our monogram or the anniversary date. As long as it's both of us, I suppose. It's just if it's ONLY his name. Ugh. I'm not his property.

Yes and I plan on it. Still trying to figure out where I want it though. I have our wedding date already.

I would get a tattoo.....but not one of DH's name.

both DH and i agree we'd never get our names tattoo'd on each other. just not into name tats. he said he might consider getting our kids names one day when we have them -- but never mine. i wouldn't want him to.

I got DH's name tattooed on my wrist in script after we were dating for a few months I told him it is never too late to add in R.I.P. above it!

I dont think i would. I do have my own name though!! LOL. I out my name on my lower back. LOL. I knew i could never regret it. Plus I love my name!

Re: Tat Question-- Would you

I have a tattoo of our wedding date on my wrist and may get DHs name in the future. I wanted this one to be visible and with my current job, I wasn't comforable having his name there. In the future, I'd like a 1/2 sleeve and would incorporate his name in it

well i have it lol so that answers the question. And no i dont feel like cattle and that im branded his to me its no biggie, i can always cover it up if worse comes to worse. Its above another tattoo of mine and the other tattoo is pretty big, if anything i would just continue with the design i have on the other tattoo and extend it up.

But other than that, i felt the vows i gave in church were a bigger deal than the tattoo and my commitment to him was a bigger deal than the tattoo. I know its not for everybody and don't expect ppl to all agree with it, if its not for you its not for you.

to me whether its a date, initials or anything its the same thing. I mean if i had our wedding date and god forbid we got a divorce, i would still have to explain the wedding date and still cover up that tattoo. Or even initials i would still explain that one and i would STILL get that covered up too no matter what it was bc it still represents him, you still have to explain it and you still will have that with you if things didn't work out and i would still end up covering up any of those choices.

If its for personal taste and just dont like how it looks then yeah that is different. Theres lots of tats i really dont like and ppl do it too and thats fine, we all have different taste.

I like how you said branded cattle

Where on your body do you have it? I was thinking of getting on the front of my hip area, but in a spot that won't be affected when I'm pregnant. Maybe I should wait until after kids in case I have a C-section

ETA: I have our wedding date between my shoulder blades.

thank you, and like i said its right above another tattoo which i can just extend if anything. Infact that tat originally was supposed to be ALOT bigger, the design i brought in was gonna take up most of my back. The part that i do have on now, is just the bottom part of the tat i wanted and when he put the design on me from the paper i said NO just do the bottom lol, i started having second thoughts about the whole back tattoo that i was going to get. And then when i went back a 2nd time the following week i added the name just above.

Nice tat's girls. I really like the locations : ankles and between the shoulder blades.
Denise I like where you put it and dont worry I dont think you are a branded cattle either.

i'll ask dh if he thinks that but no he is the opposite of that, he doesnt have that macho i am the man and youre the woman attitude at all which is one reason i married him . I grew up with a dad that was like that and bc of that i said no matter if i love a guy if he is like that then i wont marry him. My parents thought i'd never get married bc i said i am not gonna have a man who expects me to cook and clean for him and do everything for him. I think they thought i just didnt want to do all of that but no, i do it all for dh now and only bc he never expects it as my duty and he will help and do his part.

I do want to get a new tat soon, maybe in the summer when dh finishes his whole upper arm. Just dont know where i wanna put it and no the new tat wont have anything to do with DH lol

Would you consider your hip or do you want it to be noticeable? I have 3 tats all hidden and my favorite location is the hip one. If I am at the beach you can see but for all professional purposes is hidden. I was dying to get a tat on the back of my neck just a character but I wear my hair in buns a lot so you would be able to see it. Besides my mom would freak if she saw a tat on the back of my neck (and it does not matter that I am old and married).
