tattoos

I am bored, so here is my new topic!

What tattoos do you have? How many? and what are their meanings.

I know this has been posted before..but what the heck.

I have a blue rose on my right leg. It was a cover up of a band logo that I used to have. I actually thoguht the only way to cover red and black was with black, so I expected to get a black rose, but he made it blue and I was so happy to not have to have a big black rose on my leg lol

I have a profile of a woman 'Day of the Dead' skull on my left leg as well. The Mexican Holiday, Dia De Los Muertos, is celebrated on November 1st, which happens to also be my birthday. I love the idea of the day and the artwork I have seen for it is amazing, so I asked my artist to draw something up for me similar to something I had seen before and he came up with what I have now. :) I love it so much.

Can't wait to get more!

sorry, I just took a pic of my legs while sitting here at work and resized in paintshop lol

Re: tattoos

I don't have any tatoo's, there was never anything I really wanted to put on my body in such a permanent way. I always thought...'what if i just hate it in 10 years' so I never did it.

Looking back, honestly it wasn't really my thing.

Yours sound pretty cool!

Re: tattoos

i have 5.

1st one is a small ankh on my left upper arm. i got it when i was 18. i don't love it anymore, but it's special since it was my first.

2nd one is on my right boob. it's the glyphs for taurus and venus. it's small, but i designed it all on my own, and i lovee it!

3rd is a silhouette of an Egyptian cat. it's all black, profile shot, but some people think it's a dog i don't see it. it's on my inner right ankle.

4th is my left ankle, a band of our wedding date in roman numerals. i lovee this one too.

5th, and largest is a koi on my right arm. it's almost a 1/4 sleeve, but my arm is too flabby for it to go all the way around. it took 8-10 hours to complete, but it came out amazing. i took pics of it when we were in mexico, but i never posted the finished product.

i will definitely get more, but probably not until i'm done having children, and it'll be something for them.

Re: tattoos

i have two right now...and fully addicted If my job/career choice allowed for it I would without a doubt be sleeved - but one can dream lol.

ANYWAYS...

1) my first tattoo is just a little dainty design...i don't think i have a pic of it - but it's a lower back tat... it's a heart design with dh&i's monogram inside with designs all around...very VERY simple..not even colored in.. but i like it very dainty/feminine.

2) just got my 2nd one a few months back...it's an idea i came up with and brought to my artist...i literally brought him a stick figure like drawing lol and he truly TRULY brought my ideas into a beautiful work of art. He's phenomenal.. my brother has been using him for years & i now reccomend him to everyone i know.

This i have a pic of... the words are lyrics to one of my favorite worship/church songs. It has a tremendous amount of meaning to me..it's a song that always brings me peace & grace no matter what i'm going through

lol - honestly, call me crazy, but i get such an adrenaline rush w/getting tattoos.. I waited so long to go for that last one & really REALLY wanted it...so i was excited.. plus i decided last minute to go all out & get it a lot bigger then i had planned..so i was in one of those 'let's DO this!' kinda of moods lol. I was in the chair for just over 4hours... it wasn't until the last 10minutes that i started to complain - my artist was like 'well it's about TIME...it's only been 4hours!' meanwhile dh was wincing with his little one on his wrist lol. I think it really depends on the part of the body as some hurt more than others, along with the person...there were parts that were numbish & really didn't hurt at all..and then there were parts that HURT.lol. that damn dove! i remember at the end he was going over the top of the wings...that was probably the worst part! the dove hurt like a B lol. but as a whole i really wouldn't say it was all that bad!

i have 3 with 1 in the works

1- its a long tailed rainbow dove with a red rose in it's mouth on my left boob.

2- the chinese symbol for 'love' on my left ankle

3- the chinese symbol for 'courage' on my right shoulder blade

the other one is a celtic knot with our wedding anny in one of the lines on my lower spine (in the standard 'tramp stamp' locale)

I can understand that, I just know alot of people who have had tattoos on their backs and they had to stop halfway. I actually fell asleep during the day of the dead tattoo. I was so tired, and after a while the pain just numbs away and you don't feel it anymore. I still flinch whenever they get close to my bone...the shin bone..ugh...That is my worst nightmare to ever have a tattoo go over that part of my body lol

You have a strong threshold of pain Taryn! :) Good for you lol

yes - it definetly just depends... because like i said - there were parts on there that HURT lol..closer up to the neck especially & of course certain parts of the spine... but for the most part it was just that constant 'zzzzzzz' lol. u know how it is!
the back is funny...the greatest/entertaining part of it is that there are so many nerves...so while he's tattooing a finger would flinch, or a part of my arm/leg/hand etc. it made me laugh lol.

Re: tattoos

oh that would freak me out! lol

I don't know if I would ever get anything on my back..I like being able to look at my tattoos. I may get a cupcake on my back near my shoulder though :)

Re: tattoos

first of all - to Taryn's video. Made me cringe to watch, but you're just sitting there like nothing's happening. lol. I do like the tat (and that song is one of my favorites too). I remember at my wedding you had a dress that was low in the back, so the tattoo was viewable. It looked good

As for me - no tattoos. I've never had even the desire to put anything permanent on my body. HOWEVER, within these last couple of years I have been kind of toying with the idea. We'll see I guess!! DH has a few that I like. I won't let him get anymore though!!! lol

Re: tattoos

I have a tattoo of my dad's name on my rib cage because I really wanted him by my side when I walk down the aisle. Surrounding it is a branch of plum blossoms with 5 flowers, each representing a member of my family. The one on the upper left is not on the branch because my dad is in heaven. I chose plum blossoms because they bloom in the winter and it's a Chinese flower. We (my family) immigrated to the US during a snow storm and it marked the beginning of a new life for us. I saw my first snow at JFK airport and everytime it snows I think of him.

Re: tattoos

My first tattoo was the darkest star pictured below. The other stars and music notes I added on a few months later. I just walked into a tattoo shop by myself when I was 19 and said, 'I want a star on my hip.' I thought that was all I could handle. But like I said, a few months later I went back and added a little bit more to it. This is my most meaningless tattoo.

My second tattoo is on my inner right ankle. It's a dancing 8. It represents the Dave Matthews Band. That band has had a huge, HUGE impact on my life and I will never regret getting this tattoo just because of all the memories it represents. (just as an example: I met my husband because of the band)

My third tattoo is on my inner left wrist. It's an AIDS ribbon. This is the most meaningful tattoo on my body because it represents someone that is so dear to me who has lived their life to the fullest even though they've been HIV positive for, gosh I don't even know now, 18+ years.

My last tattoo is not completed yet. Once my is born then I'll probably finish it up. It's on my inner left forearm. It's basically an extension of the AIDS ribbon (even though the two symbols don't really match) To me it represents beauty, and controversy, and life...all the same things the person mentioned above represents to me. I can't wait to finish it. When it's done there will be branches added with LOTS more cherry blossoms and possibly a sparrow towards the inner elbow of my arm.

Re: tattoos

its an interpretation of this

and basically I got it because of the symbolism behind the hardships that the geisha face in life in order to become these well rounded worldly ladies. and I like how her back is turned because its as if she is admiring the cherry blossoms and reflecting. I went through alot of crap in my life and since I met DH things have been steady uphill (with minor bumps...but nothing compared to my past) I felt it was symbolic of me reflecting on and admiring the beautiful things going on in my life

Re: tattoos

I have 4. I had posted a pic of my latest, but now I don't know where the pic is.

1. Butterfly on the back of my neck. I don't remember where I read it, but the meaning for me is that since butterflies are such delicate creatures, when you see one around you, it means God is protecting you.

2. Tribal sun on my left inner ankle. DH has the match to this on one of his elbows.

3. Stars on my inner right arm wrist. I plan on adding to this.

4. My most recent - our wedding date in roman numerals on my back between my shoulder blades.

Re: tattoos

I have my own name on my lower back. I love how it came out. I will post a pic later the next tattoo I am getting is for my grandmother she was irish and i gave her a clatter ring one year and when she passed away she wanted to make sure I got it back. She never took the ring off, I now wear it everyday and when i look down at my hand I know she is with me. Awwh. I get sad thinking about it. :( . I have a small pic of it. I just want to change it a little bit.
