Tax Question

Tax Question

So we have given it consideration, and it seems best that we hire someone to do our taxes this year. The reason being that my situation this past year makes things complicated.

In late May 2009, I moved from NYC to CT, but still worked for a NY employer. In August 2009 that NY employer moved me onto the payroll of its CT office.

So I have to file tax returns for two states, plus earned income in two different states but the date of my move versus where I earned income do not match. Tricky. There is no simple fix for this on Turbo Tax, and my W2s are so messy.

Anyway, does anyone have a clue or best estimate as to how much it would cost to have our taxes professionally done? It would be for me and DH, but he was in one state all year with one employer, so nothing tricky there.

Re: Tax Question

The fee can really depend on where you go; I know here at our office, our partners will not do a tax return for less than $250. And that's a simple return.

You may want to look into having an accounting firm do it, versus going to H & R Block or Jackson Hewitt. I think that for your situation for 2009, they may handle it better. That's just my opinion.

It can cost anything, depending on what else you have other than the W-2's.

FM if you have more questions because I am a CPA.

Re: Tax Question

Thanks so much. I would definitely go to an accounting firm, as opposed to a more generic place, since it's tricky.
