Taxes now that you're married
Did you notice any difference in your refund?Mine is about the same (which is excellent for me), but DH OWES money. I'm still trying to figure out what the heck he did. We simulated filing individually and jointly, and he still didn't do well
. I thought tax refunds got better when you got married, not significantly worse!

Re: Taxes now that you're married
It was more for us this year. Nothing looked different. Maybe it's because I withheld a lot more than usual.

I used taxact. They compare what your return would be if you were filing separate vrs married. it wasnt much of a difference.

Re: Taxes now that you're married
haven't done it yet but i found out last week that if we file separate, i can't deduct my student loan interest ... i didn't change my w/h at work, so i'm hoping for an increase in the refund ...

it's almost always going to be more (of a refund) filing joint. we checked both...mine stayed the same throughout, and DH's owed less filing joint.

Re: Taxes now that you're married
I received a lower refund than last year. I lost my head of household so it squished us!

more than being confused about the rule, i was pizzed cause DH is slow in doing his return every year and i'm usually in early - now i have to wait for him
... i'm not sure what the logic is behind it other than maybe it has to do with income levels where the deduction phases out ... separately, they wouldn't have all of the income info in front of them to determine whether you qualified for the deduction ...

Re: Taxes now that you're married
i used w/h to help pay for the wedding, so we shuld be owing something this year which is fine with us. but I did it with turbo tax and filing jointly helps our tax bill! we need to start making babies pronto!
