Taxes S U C K!!!!!!!!!!!! - Vent!

DH and I were messing around on H&R Block last night and it appears we'll owe a small fortune!

No one told me that getting married was a HUGE financial mistake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

VENT OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are filing joint because of our student loans, and I did them on HR Block and then on Turbo Tax. I got a lot more back using Turbo Tax, and I found it easier to use. We are actually getting a decent amount back, but I thought it would be more

Yep - when I plugged the info in as filing married but separate it was even worse!

Thanks for the tip! I have tons of loans but the interest was less than the standard deduction! What a pain!

student loan interest is a deduction on line 23 of the 1040

student loan interest is a deduction on line 23 of the 1040

We deducted it but it was less than the standard deduction so that over-rided the interest.

We're having an accountant look over it to see if he can save us at least a little money1

So frustrating!

you can try out turbo tax and see what it says before you pay an accountant. you can enter all the info and then if you don't like what it says, never file through them and erase all the data. i've used it for the last few years with no problems. you shouldn't get penalized for being married.
